Look What We are Learning
Math-We are continuing to representing numbers, ten frames, tally marks, number words, number sentences, pictures, the number, counting 1-120, counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's, place value (tens and ones), Calendar math, and number lines. Next week, we will work on <, >. and =.
Reading-We have started talking about word strategies. We are are learning to break the word into chunks, sound it out, see if it makes sense, use the pictures, skip it and read on, get your mouth ready, and try both vowel sound. We have been working on the character and the setting.
WORD WORKS- Please remind you child to return his/her red folder on Mondays. This week our word families are "in, un, and an." We are learning about green, yellow, and red words. Green words are words you can sound out. Yellow words are words that have a rule. Red words are words that we have to memorize because they don't follow the rules and you can't sound them out.
Phonics-We are learning secret stories about phonics-Ask your child what sh, th, wh, ph, tion, sion, ation, or, and ing say. They should be able to tell you. We have also worked on long and short vowels. Ask them if they can sing our songs. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE WORKING ON SIGHT WORDS WITH YOUR CHILD. WE HAVE 11 WORD LIST.
EEKK-- We are working on partner reading-you read a line and I will read a line, Echo reading (repeating each other) and Choral reading (reading together). We have short "a", short "i" stories, list of word families, and poems.
Science-We are learning about Earth Properties. We have learned about the layers of the earth.
