Images for Student Projects

It is important for students to access quality, trustworthy images when doing online research. Take a look below at the Smore that Mrs. Matney created to help guide students. It is important to cite where all information comes from, including images. Give credit where credit is due! You can access the Smore on the Media Center website or down below.

ALA Award Winners

Did you know there are awards given out for best books?! The ALA Youth Media Awards were announced on January 27. These awards honor children’s authors and illustrators. Click the link below to discover the winners of the Newbery Medal, the Caldecott Medal, and the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award. Mrs. Matney will be ordering copies of the 2014 winners. Have you read any of the titles so far?

Thank You, Herman Parish

On February 3, children's author, Herman Parish, visited K-2 students to talk about his Amelia Bedelia Bedelia books and the writing process. Amelia Bedelia herself even made a surprise appearance! She got a little mixed-up of course, but all ended well when Mrs. Matney and 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Antley, surprised Mr. Parish with a lemon meringue pie as a way to say thank you for visiting!

Follett Shelf accounts

Each student has their own FollettShelf account for accessing e-books and audiobooks. The username is their Powerschool number (or last 6 digits of their SASI number) and the password is their date of birth (xx/xx/xxxx). On the iPad, download the Follett Enlight app. Enter the FollettShelf URL (wbb11101) when prompted. Audiobooks can be found by clicking on Digital Resource Links from the top toolbar and opening up Catalist Digital. Email Mrs. Matney for further assistance.

SC Book Award Voting for Nominee Books

Students will be voting for their favorite 2013-14 nominee book. To cast a vote, they must have read at least 5 books from the appropriate list. Voting will be held later this month in the Media Center. For a list of the picture book nominees visit here and for the children's book nominees visit here. Voting does not mean that our reading program has ended. Students can continue to earn prizes for the SC Book Award Challenge that runs through May.

Box Tops contest coming in March

The Media Center will have a grade level Box Tops for Education contest next month. Please save your Box Top UPC’s to send in during the announced time. The Media Center receives 10 cents from each UPC. For more information visit
