Principal's Post - A Weekly Note From Mr. Ortman
Dear Mill Creek Parents and Guardians,
American Education Week is right around the corner. This celebration of public education takes place during the week of November 12th, and it runs through November 16th. During the week, each classroom will schedule an opportunity for you to visit Mill Creek and observe some of the learning activities in which your children participate. More information about the specific times and events planned will be communicated to you by your child's classroom teacher, so be on the look out for it.
While American Education Week is a terrific time to observe the education that your child receives at Mill Creek, we will still be making sure that everyone is safe by continuing to use our typical sign-in procedures in the main office. Please be sure to have your ID with you when you arrive, and plan for the time it will take for multiple visitors to check in before the classroom events. We will try to schedule events throughout the week to control the number of visitors here at any one time, but we ask in advance for your patience when you arrive.
We hope that you will be able to visit The Creek during American Education Week, and we look forward to seeing you!
Enjoy the weekend!!!
Sincerely,
Shawn M. Ortman

Happy Friday Creekers!
On Tuesday, we had our monthly CREEKERS Code Assembly. This month we focused on cooperation, and we had a guest speaker. Mr. Brett Brackett, PSU Alumni and former NFL player, came to speak with the students about how the CREEKERS Code traits helped him reach his personal goals.
He demonstrated the importance of cooperation and working together as team. Students worked together to suit up for a football game with Brett's jerseys and helmets. The team approach was the quickest and most efficient, which was a great visual for students to see.
Thank you, Mr. Brackett, for coming and speaking with our students!
Enjoy the weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Amy Adelman
Assistant Principal
Veteran's Day Wall of Honor
In honor of Veteran’s Day, the Mill Creek students and staff will be creating a Veteran's Wall of Honor. This is our fourth year creating a visual honor.
If you are new to Mill Creek or did not participate in the last few years, please read below to find out more about our Veteran's Wall of Honor.
If you have a family member who served or is currently serving in any branch of the military, please send in a picture of him or her, along with the person's name, branch of service, wars fought (if any), student's name and relationship to veteran, and homeroom teacher on the back of the photograph. Pictures will be returned after Veteran’s day. Pictures need to be sent to the office by Monday, October 29th! Thank you!
Please note all pictures that were sent in over the last three years will be displayed again this year! You do not have to send in the pictures again - unless you have new pictures you would like to have displayed.
Veteran's Day Letter Writing Campaign
Mill Creek Elementary School is conducting a school wide letter writing campaign to thank our local heroes on Veterans’ Day. Students at Mill Creek want all our nation’s heroes to know how much we appreciate their service to our country. Letters are a meaningful way for our students to demonstrate support and our debt of gratitude for those who served and are presently serving our country.
To support our “local heroes,” we are requesting the names and addresses of any family members who are on active duty or retired members of the armed forces. Complete the form (Click here) with the appropriate information if you wish to participate. Please confirm the spelling of both name and address of the veteran before submitting. Form(s) are due no later than 11/2/18. Please submit a separate form for each veteran. Thank you for your support!
Central Bucks School District Elementary Health Curriculum
Dear Parents:
As part of the Central Bucks School District Elementary Health Curriculum, a unit entitled Tobacco, Alcohol, and Other Drugs is taught to pupils in grades K-6. The primary purpose of this program is to educate the children on the negative impacts of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs, as well as the impact of negative peer influences.
Your child’s teacher will teach researched-based lessons developed by Central Bucks teachers and certified school nurses using HealthTeacher.com as a resource. In order to deliver a consistent, cohesive curriculum, all Central Bucks teachers will deliver this curriculum during Red Ribbon Week, October 22-26. Course level goals and objectives can be found on the school district’s website: http://www.cbsd.org/Page/1497
A PDF version of the PowerPoints (instructional curriculum) used in the classrooms can be viewed at http://www.cbsd.org/Page/24978 . Should parents wish to have their child excused from the program, they should send a written request to the attention of the principal.
In addition, we will be having a red ribbon themed spirt day each day. Please encourage your child to participate and celebrate living a healthy and happy life style.
As always, please do not hesitate to call with any questions.
Sincerely,
Shawn M. Ortman
