Langston's Letters

May 3 - May 7

A Note from the Principal

Dear Langston Hughes Family,

Last week we welcomed 28 students back into the building for in person learning. The students were excited to be back and we were excited to see them. On May 3, the application for Summer Rising at PS 233 opens. Summer Rising is a program designed to help students transition back into in person learning. It will incorporate classroom instruction and extra-curricular activities. Summer Rising will be in person, and open to all students. The program will take place Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm, from July 6 to August 20. I urge you to take advantage of the program and allow your child the chance to use the summer to transition back into in person learning.

Apply as soon as possible at this link Like summer school in year's past, our school will welcome students from other district 18 schools. I would like as many of our children as possible to take advantage of the opportunity so don't wait, apply tomorrow!

PS: If by chance our school is still not listed, we will begin to collect names via a school survey that will be posted by 3pm on Monday.

Stay safe and healthy!

Senior News

On Tuesday evening I met with the fifth grade families to share our plans for graduation. Last year we were unable to hold a ceremony, so the staff got together for a graduation caravan. This year, while modified, we will be able to host our fifth graders for 3 separate in person ceremonies. However, there will be some changes. Here are the details we have so far:

  • Virtual Awards Ceremony 6/18 @ 1pm
  • In person Graduation Ceremonies 6/22 @ 8:30am (In person students), 10:30am (Ms. Boyke & Ms. Humphrey and Mr. Rouse's students; 12:00pm (Ms. McCrea's students)
  • Outdoor ceremony
  • 2 guests per student
  • Senior t-shirts on sale for $20 (Order form was placed on Class Dojo); due May 14

I will update this section each week as we get more details.

In Person Learning

Gentle Reminder: If you have not already done so, please download the DOE Health Screener onto your phone or your child's phone. Use this screener each morning after you take your child's temperature. After submitting your response to all 5 questions the screener will determine if your child is cleared to come to school. This will keep you from having to stand on line to wait for our staff to ask you the same questions in person.

Let's continue to work to keep each other safe and healthy!
