MASSABESIC HIGH SCHOOL
2023-2024
Week of Monday, FEBRUARY 12 - Friday, FEBRUARY 16, 2024
RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
We made it - the week before Winter Break! We have several athletic competitions taking place this weekend after a long season of hard work and dedication. Best of luck to our Cheering Team competing at the State Championships in Augusta, our Wrestling Team competing at Regionals in Sanford, our Swim Team at the Regional Championships in Cape Elizabeth, and to our Indoor Track & Field teams competing at the Southwestern Championships at USM. We also learned that our Girls Varsity Basketball team has finished #6 in their division and has qualified for the postseason - more information to come on their opponent and the date of that game. A special thank you to Ms. Goulet, Mr. Nadeau, and the entire Student Council for their work in preparation for a week of fun and frivolity! Some highlights for our upcoming (busy) week:
1. Please see the Spirit Week posting below and the Community Closet Drive posting below.
2. Credit Recovery (for students who have been contacted by our Guidance Department) begins on Monday, February 12.
3. Wednesday, Feb. 14th is an ERD - students will be called to the gym (based on the schedule posted below) for presentations from our guest speaker, Superintendent Polansky from Massachusetts.
4. On Thursday, Feb. 15th at 9:30 am the Maine Community Foundation will be presented to Grade 12 students regarding scholarship opportunities (auditorium)
5. A reminder that Block 6 on Friday, Feb. 16th the Student Council will be hosting a school wide pep rally in the gymnasium. We will dismiss for first wave from the gymnasium.
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow
MPA Principals Award Winner - Maya Beneszewski
Greetings Mustang Nation!
I am pleased to announce to you that Maya Beneszewski has been selected as the Maine Principals Association Principal’s Award winner for the Massabesic High School Class of 2024. Please help me congratulate Maya on this well-deserved recognition. As a recipient of this award, Maya has been invited to attend the MPA Honors Luncheon that is held each year in the Bangor area to honor one outstanding high school Senior from each MPA member school. The criteria for this award are academic excellence, outstanding school citizenship, and leadership - Maya exemplifies these criteria and it is an honor and privilege to name her as this year’s recipient.
During her time at Massabesic High School Maya has established herself as a formidable academic student and is currently ranked fourth in her graduating class. Maya has devoted countless hours to promoting a positive Massabesic culture and environment with her participation in the National Honors Society (Grade 11 and 12), Student Council (Grade 9-12), Math Team (Grade 9-12), and Debate Team (Grade 11-12), and Maya has also logged more than 220 hours of community service (and counting). In addition to her club activities, Maya has been a strong member of the varsity Swim Team, and she also coaches in a swimming program for younger athletes in the area.
Congratulations to Maya and her family, for this wonderful achievement that honors her hard work, dedication, and achievement throughout her educational career.
