MS Association of Federal Education Program Directors
Letter from the President
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the MS Association of Federal Education Program Directors (MAFEPD) Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you to a new year of working for the students and teachers in the state of Mississippi. As many of you know who have attended the MAFEPD conference over the past few years, there is one common denominator-GROWTH! Just as our students are growing across the state, so are we as Federal Programs Directors and the MAFEPD organization!
We are working diligently to provide our membership, new directors and not-so-new directors, with resources to meet the challenges of state and federal requirements while positively impacting student learning outcomes. With the help of the MDE OFP staff, Stephanie, Velma, Frank, Janice, Melanie, Rico, Eileen, Misty, Tim, Burbette, Lecia, Chris, Florence, Kim, Deatrice, Jasmine, Melissa, Laura and I will work hard to actively engage you in MAFEPD throughout the year!
As I reflect on the year ahead, I am reminded of Joy and George from THE ENERGY BUS. George is so caught up with the day to day events of life and work that he cannot see how good he has it. Joy, on the other hand, starts each day with a positive outlook and sees life (including work) as a means to make an impact on others. On any given day, we can be both George and Joy. I would like to challenge you to make this year in federal programs your best year ever. Find Joy as you work to positively impact students in your district.
Remember, on days when you are more George than Joy, your actions may be the difference between a graduate and a dropout, an EL student gaining proficiency in English, novice teachers becoming highly effective instructional leaders in their building and parents and families being equal partners in their children’s education. It all starts with one step… let that step start with YOU! Know that you are the driving force behind student achievement, advanced opportunities for our most vulnerable students, and impactful professional development.
Here’s to a JOYFUL year in Federal Programs,
Tonya Bolton
