Clive Media Center

Where amazing learning happens daily!

What's been happening in the Clive Media Center?

So many great and fun things have been going on the past month!

In Kindergarten, we are finishing up our author/illustrator study on Melanie Watt! She's known for making kids laugh, and we had a library full of laughter when we read about Scaredy Squirrel and Chester.

In first grade, we're working on how to be safe online and we took a field trip to the Urbandale Public Library!

In second and third grade, we're participating in the Global Read Aloud with other students all over the world by listening to Marty McGuire and writing in our blog about what we think!

In fourth grade, we've been talking about what it means to be a digital citizen and doing activities related to cyberbullying.

In fifth and sixth grade, I've been sharing some of the Iowa Children's Choice books through book talks and book trailers! There are some excellent choices this year!

Update on International Literacy Day and International Dot Day

Students had a great time creating their dots and leaving their marks. We were also able to Skype with students in Colorado!

Policy and Procedures

Students are allowed to check out the amount of books their classroom teacher allows them. For most, it is usually between two to four books. The books are checked out for two weeks at a time to the students. Students are responsible for paying for a lost or damaged book. If students currently have an overdue book on their account, then they will be limited to one book for check out that must remain with the teacher until the missing book is found or paid for.

Birthday Club

Not sure what to get your child for their special day? You can now donate a book to the library in their name. Please let me know the book title and I will let you know the cost of the book for you to send in with your child. The book will have a book plate in the front so everyone will know why it's such a special book!

About Mrs. Miller

This is my seventh year as a Teacher Librarian! I spent my first five years in Virginia, and this is my second year in WDMCS. I love both my media centers(Clive & Fairmeadows), and I also love all of the students! One of my favorite things about being a teacher librarian is connecting students with perfect books for each of them!
