The TIGER Times
Yamhill Carlton High School
Week of November 5-10
You are invited to attend Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 19 & 20. More information will be coming next week regarding how to sign up and the overall schedule, but I wanted to put it on your radar now.
Sometimes when our students get to high school, we tend to not to see the point in scheduling conferences because our young people are getting more self sufficient not to mention independent. But....I want to encourage you to think differently as it could positively influence his/her success in high school for the following reasons.
- Shows your student you care...of course our students know we care, but going the extra mile to attend a conference sends a strong message that you value their education and students want to make their parents proud.
- Improve communication between parents and teacher. It is nice to put a name with a face and establish a relationship with each other. Teacher's appreciate getting to know parents and knowing they have a partnership in educating their child.
- Learn something new about your student. Although, you know your student, getting a glimpse of him/her in the high school setting can be valuable in helping them be successful. Sharing information with the teacher might also help them connect with your student and help them academically.
I have included an article below to help you start thinking about conferences.

Red Cross Blood Drive
The YCHS National Honor Society is proud to sponsor our next blood drive with the American Red Cross on Friday, November 16 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
An estimated 38 percent of Americans are eligible to give blood, but of those, less than 10 percent actually donate each year. If you are healthy and eligible, please come out to donate. Most donations take about an hour, so book your appointment, roll up your sleeve and become a part of the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross and NHS. Community members are welcome to come out to the high school and donate! If you would like to book an appointment, email NHS co-advisor Erin Sunday at the address below.
