Updates from Health Team
Immunizations
Your child should have received the following immunizations in elementary school:
· 5DTaP/Td/DTP–diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (4 is acceptable if 4th dose is given after 4th birthday)
· 4IPV/OPV–polio (3 is acceptable if 3rd given after 4th birthday)
· 3 shot series for Hepatitis B
· 2MMR–measles, mumps, rubella

Colorado law (Board of Health rule 6 CCR 1009‐2) requires all students attending Colorado schools and licensed childcares to be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless an exemption is filed.
Exemptions
There are two ways to file a nonmedical exemption.
· File the certificate of nonmedical exemption WITH a signature from an immunizing provider OR
· File the certificate of nonmedical exemption received upon the completion of our online education module.
· Parents of students in grades K-12 claiming a nonmedical exemption must file one annually. Nonmedical exemptions expire June 30 each year. If you submit a nonmedical exemption on or before June 30, it will not be valid for the upcoming school year unless you signed the exemption during early registration.
· Provide a copy of the completed exemption certificate to the Preston front office.
Medical exemptions must be completed by a physician and only need to be completely once, not annually like the non-medical exemption.

K-8 online math tool available summer 2023
May 23, 2023
Dear current K-8 families,
Gov. Jared Polis announced that Colorado will make Zearn, a K-8 online math support platform, available to Colorado schools. Poudre School District is working with Zearn to provide all current K-5 students, as well as 6-8 students currently taking a Math course in Quarter 4 of the 2022-23 school year, access to use Zearn over the summer!
You can log in to Zearn by finding the Zearn icon on your child’s Clever portal using their lunch ID and password. See the following guides on logging into applications through Clever using a PSD Device or Personal Device.
The Zearn Summer 2023 Math Intensive Series teaches students foundational skills in 4- to 6-week sequences. Additional information about Zearn is available on the Community Tech Portal (techportal.psdschools.org).
Thank you for your continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Poudre School District
PSD Lead and Copper Update
Dear Poudre School District community:
PSD has sampled more than 2,000 water fixtures at 34 PSD sites in compliance with the new Clean Water in Schools and Child Care Centers legislation signed into law last June. Results by building were sent to school staff and families as they arrived and posted on the Colorado’s Test and Fix Water for Kids database. Results for elementary schools, early childhood centers, and childcare facilities across the state can be found in this database.
Lead mitigation efforts in the buildings where at least one fixture tested at or above the action level of 5 ppb began immediately once schools received their results. Mitigation actions include:
- Turning off fixtures with elevated levels of lead and posting signs on affected fixtures
- Sharing results with families, staff, municipalities and the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment
- Performing additional testing to determine whether levels are elevated due to the fixture or pipes leading to the fixture
- Using additional test results to inform next steps, which may involve replacing fixtures, replacing pipes, adding filters, designating a fixture as “not for drinking,” or turning off a fixture permanently (some fixtures with elevated levels were already not in service at the time of testing)
Families and staff at impacted schools will be updated once mitigation measures are complete. Until that time, fixtures with elevated lead levels will remain off.
The Clean Water in Schools and Child Care Centers legislation requires testing all elementary and early childhood centers before the end of May 2023 and testing all schools serving grades 6-8 by the end of November 2024. PSD plans to test middle schools for lead during the 2023-24 school year – well ahead of the state’s deadline. PSD also plans to test high schools for lead in 2023-24, though high school testing is not required by the state.
As an additional step above what state law requires, PSD has tested all elementary, middle, and high schools for copper and is testing non-school buildings in PSD for both copper and lead. Four samples were taken from each building. Results of this testing will be posted on the PSD Testing Drinking Water for Lead and Copper web page. If you have any questions about the water testing program, please visit psdschools.org/schools/water-lead-testing or contact watertesting@psdschools.org.
Sincerely,
Poudre School District

Support Students Experiencing Homelessness
The number of PSD families and youth experiencing homelessness has risen by 10% since last year, and their needs have risen exponentially. Currently, one out of every 27 students is experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in our district. Students experiencing homelessness encounter many barriers to their education. Our department works to help youth and families overcome these barriers, including transportation, access to extracurricular activities, before and after-school care, and meeting basic needs. We do this along with case-management to help them reach independence.
Your generous donation allows the Language, Culture and Equity Department to support these students and families with personal items, temporary shelter, provisions, clothing, etc.
The need has never been greater.
Please help us reach our goal of raising $40,000 to support PSD students and families facing housing insecurity and homelessness.
*All donations are tax deductible, and an automated email will provide you with your tax receipt.

You can now easily donate via this link: All donations are tax deductible. Please share this message far and wide, anyone can donate through this link. The opportunity to give does not end now, this link will be live throughout the holiday season.
PSD Now Newsletter
One of many ways information is shared is through the PSD Now community newsletter, which features timely information about the latest happenings in the district. This is emailed to families and interested community members about every other Thursday.
