Lake Trafford Elementary October 2021 School News

Message from Administration

Our first quarter has wrapped up and what a success it was! We've loved having our LTE Gators back on campus engaged in meaningful learning. Our teachers have worked hard to establish classroom routines and procedures to start the year and the result has been positive, safe learning environments for our students.

Soon our Quarter 1 Reports Cards will be posted in Focus for your viewing. For the first quarter, we will also send home print copies. Your child's teacher is working to prepare your child to lead their own conference where your child will share with your their learning goals for the year and the progress they are making. Look for information to come home about this soon.

This fall we look forward to bringing back some of our annual events that have long been a part of LTE. We hope you join us Friday, October 22nd from 4-6 for our Fall Festival. Tickets are on sale now before school just outside the front office. We also have an LTE Hockey Night with the Florida Everblades planned for October 30th! More details on these special events can be found below in this newsletter.

We hope to see you at our upcoming events! Goooo Gators!

Wildly Important Goals!

This year we have 3 WIGs! At LTE, WIG stands for "Wildly Important Goals!". This year we have 3 WIGs. They are:

Culture WIG: LTE will increase student attendance from 91% in 2021 to 95% by the end of the school year in 2022.

Academic WIG: 100% of LTE students will meet their individual iReady reading goal by the end of the school year.

Leadership WIG: 100% of LTE students will have a leadership role in their classroom by 12/17/21.

During the month of September the Attendance Villian "Count Crary" (our Math Coach in disguise who was counting absences!), got locked up thanks to all the LTE Gators who worked hard to help us meet our attendance goal!

Check out the pictures below that show just some of the places around campus where we are tracking our progress towards meeting our goals. Ask your child about how they are working towards these school-wide goals!

1st Grade Science Fun!

In first grade our students are learning about "Changes in Motion." Students are demonstrating and describing how objects move in many different ways. In one of our investigations, we made a catapult out of plastic spoons and rubber band or tape. Students investigated and predicted different objects that could fly or flop using force and the direction the motion was. Great work, Scientists!

News from Grade 5

Fifth grade has had a great start to the school year. The students are really taking ownership of their leadership roles and synergizing to represent the qualities they outlined in their classroom mission statements. In ELA, students are reading The Watsons go to Birmingham. They are actively learning about figurative language, character perspective, conflict and resolution and historical events. In math, students are using visual models to further develop their understanding of multiplication, division, and volume of rectangular prisms. In science, students were excited to apply their knowledge of chemical and physical changes through a hands-on experience of creating homemade root beer and observing the changes take place. We are looking forward to witnessing all the amazing things our students will achieve throughout the year.

95210 Running Club

Our 95210 morning Running Club for 4th & 5th graders is off to a great start. When students arrive in the morning, after they have had a healthy breakfast, they can join our PE coaches out on the field to run some laps and get in some exercise before the start of the school day. Students track their laps and miles by scanning in and heading off for a jog on their own or with friends. What a great way to start the day!

Connect for Success: Mission Statements

Our students continue to engage in "Connect for Success" every Tuesday & Thursday morning. Students are learning about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and how they can build those habits into their own lives.

Many classes have written their own "Class Mission Statement" like the one pictured here from Ms. Ascher's 1st Grade Class. Many students have now moved on to writing their own personal mission statements. Ask your child about their Connect for Success mission statements. Maybe your family wants to write one?!
