Eagle Heights Elementary
October 5, 2020
Dear EHES Families,
It is hard to believe that we are into the month of October already! I hope that all of you were able to get out and enjoy the amazing weather this weekend. Tony and I went to Weston's Red Barn Farm. It was absolutely gorgeous!
We have had a great start to the school year, even with all of the challenges we are facing. I want to say thank you for all of the support and grace you have shown us. Every day brings new challenges that we are facing together, and we are doing it!
Here are a few reminders of ways that you can help us.
1. Please remember to drive down and turn around at the Little Platte Trailhead conservation area when the yellow cones are out. **Please do not pull in front of the yellow cones nor turn around in the driveway of the house across from Eagle.
2. Please remember to send items in your child's lunch that are easy to open and do not need to be heated.
3. If you are making a transportation change, please do so by 3 pm.
4. Please be sure to send a clean face mask with your child every day.
5. Please be sure to have your pick up placard in passenger side window of your car.
As the season changes, the weather is beginning to get cooler. Please make sure that your child has a coat or jacket and appropriate shoes. We are going to take students outside for recess as much as possible so they can have a mask break.
We are excited to continue partnering with you to make Eagle an AMAZING place for students and staff! If you have a concerns, please reach out to us.
Kindly,
Mrs. Slack
Everyone can be a S.T.A.R. at Eagle Heights Elementary
Counselor: Mrs. Downey
Physical Education: Mr. Parker
Physical Education- Students have been working on making sure their bodies are safe while in the gymnasium. Spatial awareness and knowing where your body is at all times is an important part of PE. K-1st grade have been doing various types of tag games where they are learning how to chase, dodge and flee. 2nd-6th graders have been doing throwing activities and games, they are working on stepping towards their target and focusing on accuracy. Over the next few weeks we will be working on stations. These stations will include basketball, football, jump roping, volleyball and many other sports. In PE, we will continue to use teamwork, sportsmanship, and focus on spatial awareness.
Innovations: Mrs. Thompson
It has been a fun first few weeks in the innovation lab!
We have been covering a range of topics - from growth mindset to practicing designs with Google Draw. In the lab we have also tackled creating our first few Flipgrid videos in grades 2-6! It has been so fun to watch all of these makers shine.
Our first few build challenges have brought out the engineering and design strengths in so many students. Students have worked together to create the longest paper chain from one piece of paper. Third and fourth graders have invented devices to help fix a broken wing and a vehicle to help rescue people from water. It has been so fun watching their engineering minds at work.
There have been several innovation star students of the week. These students have shown great leadership and kindness. For their extraordinary star behavior, they have their name on the star wall! Ask your student(s) how they become the star innovation student of the week!
Here are some pictures of what’s been happening in the innovation lab. For more pictures and updates

Art: Ms. Aeschliman
Greetings from the EHE Art Room! My name is Miss Aeschliman. I teach K-6 art here at Eagle Heights. First off, I want to thank you all for providing art supplies for your student(s) art kit this year, due to Covid restrictions. If your student does not have something I have been giving them a reminder slip to take home for you to know what they are missing or still need. We have started out the year by going through our art supplies taking each medium out and talking about different ways they can be used. Ask your child how many ways they can use their drawing pencil!
We will be doing Artsonia again this year. It is the largest collection of online student art portfolios. Your students' work can be kept completely private if you so choose. You can also choose to share it with family that may not live with you, near or far! There is an online Artsonia gift shop that you may choose to purchase items of your choosing with your students' work printed on them. We do get a small percentage of money back to use for art needs here at EHE. If you are new to Eagle Heights, you will be receiving an email from Artsonia to join and get linked up with your child(rens) art in the near future. If you signed up last year, you don’t have to do anything - Artsonia keeps your information and rolls it over to the new academic year. Second through sixth graders photograph their own work. Kindergarten and first are either uploaded by me or a high school art assistant. Check out our Eagle page here:
https://www.artsonia.com/search/?q=eagle+heights&s=school
Student work may not be sent home right away for several reasons, one being Artsonia photos must be taken and uploaded. Secondly, we have multiple opportunities throughout the year to display art at school, the Board of Education office, the EHE lunchroom, the public library, and other places in our community. Lastly, we have an art show planned for the Spring and I will hang on to work that I may want to consider for display there as well. You will get back what I have kept though by years end.
I do have a teacher wish list on Amazon if you would like to help us out with some supplies that I would love to offer your students that I will otherwise not have the funds to purchase in great amounts. I would be ever so grateful. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/TAO5QQQYZRM2?ref_=wl_share
Thanks for your support! If you ever have any questions, email me at: aeschlia@smithville.k12.mo.us

Music: Mr. Venner
Eagle Heights Music Notes
We have had a great start to the year. The students have been enthusiastic and very fun to be around after such a long break. We have played Drum Battle at all grades. We have played xylophone and percussion ensemble activity that culminates with a student leading the entire class on what to play using a set of hand signals. Looking forward the younger grades are going to be learning some music games and the upper grades will be doing a ukulele unit starting on the week of the 28th.
Media Center: Mrs. Bennaka
The library has been a busy place. We have started checking out and returning books for every grade level. Returned books are being quarantined for 3 days. Students have been working on library skills that help them locate a just right book in the library. 4th-6th grade students have been working on finding digital books using their MCPL logins.
If you have not seen the 2020-20201 Mark Twain list this year, I highly recommend checking them out there are some amazing books this year! For more information, check out our EHE Library Website or Mrs. Bennaka's Monthly Newsletter shared on Twitter.
Look for more exciting things to come in the near future!
