Congratulations to each student who was chosen as an October Student of the Month. Each teacher on campus nominates a student based on the following characteristics, but are not limited to: improved grades/growth, improved behavior, improved responsibility, cooperation skills, leadership ability, helpfulness, school spirit, positive attitude, strong work ethics, respectfulness, follows directions.

Dads and Kids, a local organization, is gifting a drawing winner from EJHS each month with a tablet with Bluetooth capabilities. This month a drawing was held with each student with perfect attendance and another for each Student of the Month nominee. This month's drawing winners were Logan L (perfect attendance) and Jesten C (SOTM).

Thank you to Dads and Kids for taking notice of our students who attend school regularly and who are standing out in the classroom with their effort and willingness to learn.

Several EJHS students attended the Special Olympics Bowling event held in Lafayette on Friday, November 9th. Thank you to Mrs. Gadrienne Ardoin and Ms. Patricia Johnson for accompanying these students as they were able to compete against other schools in the area; as well as, place. On November 14, Grolee Elementary hosted “An Evening With Grolee Gentlemen”. This event brought together the men and young men of the community, allowing them to engage in conversation about the role of men in the lives of children, School, and the community. It featured guest speakers and a student discussion panel.

HIGHLAND ELEMENTARY

Kindergarten students that visit the Learning Center at Highland are loving our new sight word books we received from DonorsChoose!
As the culmination to a weeklong lesson focus on veterans, Mrs. Tonya Guillory's class created airplanes with special "Thank You" notes attached. Students will clip notes to individual veterans who will be visiting Highland Elementary during our Veteran's Day celebration next Thursday.

Two ladies that have endured something that no woman would ever want to face...Breast Cancer. Mrs. Bonnie Ventress & Mrs. Carolyn Faul, congratulations on such a well deserved gift! Civics students and 2 members of the Student Government from Northwest High School attended Mock Legislation Day at the State Capitol. Students participated in a mock committee session and floor vote as well as met with legislatures and lobbyists.

NHS welcomed the sounds of Mr. Scott Ainslie. Mr. Ainslie performed his program “Across The Color Line: The African South” for NHS Juniors & Seniors. This varied program featured the calabash gourd banjo, diddley bow, and guitar. Mr. Ainslie toured the music of the American South where European and African musical traditions cross-pollinated to make powerful hybrids that have long dominated popular music in our nation and world.

SUNSET ELEMENTARY

Sunset Middle School teachers rewarded their best students for Thanksgiving! Each teacher issued five (5) golden panther bucks to reward the very best of their students. Students with exceptional behavior, who demonstrate strong character, and kindness were able to redeem the golden panther buck for a cupcake on Thursday, November 15th. The students who received the special golden bucks were provided with a "Pineapple Award" for spreading sunshine in our school community.

Lawtell Head Start held its November Parent Meeting as well as their Thanksgiving Program entitled

"Let's Give Thanks " sponsored by the Lawtell Head Start Parent Committee & Class Parent Representatives, community partnerships with Slammin Stuff Breads, Co. by Tamarika Barlow , and former Head Start Student Ashante Lemon "Class of 97" for gifting the Lawtell Center with 2 Fire HD8 pads for use with our new Creative Curriculum. The children were also presented with perfect attendance awards for the month of November.
