Caught Being a Leader
A principal's email inbox is inundated with mail each day but it is always such a refreshing feeling to read one such as this:
"Dear Mrs. Sandra Stone,
I tutor (student). She raves about how wonderful you are. (Student), who is now a Freshman at Churchill in Pre-AP Geometry, overheard and said you are the best teacher she's had. Your name was familiar so I asked (student), my 29 year old daughter if she'd had you and she texted: "She was AMAZING and one of a kind." (Student) is now an assistant director of a child care facility, is near completion of a masters in early intervention, and is due to have her first child in February. I think 2nd and 5th grades were the highlights of (student's) public school career. She was never better organized than she was as a 5th grader and you definitely helped her on the road to educational healing after she had the worst teacher I've ever encountered.
Educators hear about it right away when someone is upset, but too rarely hear from those who are pleased. So this little bit of feedback is my gift to you for all you've done for so many kids for so may years."
Leader in Me Implementation
The Leader in Me classroom environment targeted walk-throughs began in October 2015.
As of today, 49% of staff have made progress towards our campus goal by meeting the classroom expectations.
Please be sure to meet the expectations so that we can reach the campus goal of 100%.

Coker Handbook Tidbits-Assemblies
Teachers are asked to attend assemblies with their classes, unless the assembly occurs during your conference period. If the assembly is during a particular grade level’s planning time, the P.E. teachers, music teachers and assistant will remain with the class(es) assigned to them until the end of that class period and the regular teacher returns.
We need to be role models for our students and model the behaviors we expect during an assembly; therefore teachers are asked not to grade papers, etc. during assemblies.
All staff members are asked to instruct students in the proper behavior for attending meetings, programs, and adult gatherings.

Open Carry of Firearms
As you all may know, January 1, 2016, the new law that allows open carry will go into effect. The only difference between the new “Open Carry Law” and the old “Concealed Carry” is the ability to openly display a firearm. I want to point out that the individual will still need the license to openly carry. The law does not state that anyone can openly carry. There have been several questions about this and for some reason, people have the idea that they don’t need the license any longer. Weapons are still not allowed in any school building, sport venues, school rented venues or in parking lots where a school sponsored activity is going on (i.e., band practice or any other organization using the parking lot for a specific event). Under the old law, it was legal to possess a firearm in a vehicle or concealed on their person. January 1, it will still be legal to openly carry a firearm in parking lots of all our properties.
There is no one in law enforcement that knows what is going to happen come January 1. What we do know is that there will be some that will exercise their right to openly carry and some that may even do so in our parking lots. If you or anyone sees someone with a weapon on the campus or in the parking lot, please notify Tiffany immediately. In the law, there is a statute that states if an individual with an open carry license is advised that they may not openly carry while in the parking lot, they must immediately either conceal the weapon or leave the property. Failure to do so, the individual may be subject to arrest.
