Out of the Darkness Walk
We’re walking in the Out of the Darkness Onslow County Walk to fight suicide and support AFSP's bold goal to reduce the suicide rate 20% by 2025.
Our team is in tribute to our dear friend Hunter Wilson, who has departed from us during our 2014-2015 high school year. He was an amazing, intelligent young man who's legacy will not fade. Please help us reach our goal by clicking the "Donate" button on this page. All donations are 100% tax deductible and benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), funding research, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide.
Thank you for your support!

- Students: Are you interested in becoming a Hollywood star? Would you like to be in a short video that would help you start that career? I, Erica Spence, am working on my senior project and hope to create a short video on proper police procedures and guidelines. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for both the students and police. Filming will be during power hour and the sign-up sheet will be posted on Officer Espinar’s door. Please take this opportunity to engage in the community and learn about those who rule it.
- Students: Homecoming is fast approaching….all fees must be paid to your homeroom teacher if you want to attend the homecoming dance.
- Also, homecoming t-shirts are now available to order! All proceeds will be donated to the Monarch football team for new equipment. The ordering deadline is October 7. Order forms are available from your homeroom teacher, the front office, or Coach Pollock.
PBIS
-The PBIS ROAR Store will open on October 3, as we begin the full power hour schedule. We are in need of donations for the store. Students' requests are: visors, caps, shades, water bottles. Also if someone has hoodies or sweat shirts that you would like to donate, that would be great. Students may use last year's money for the ROAR Store only. They may not use last year's money for any recreational auditorium events. When giving money, you must write your name, the student's name, and date given. If this has not been done, the money is not valid for any recreational events in the auditorium.
-PBIS After School Snack Sales: Students may only use current money, signed by the teacher to include the date and student's name in order to purchase snacks when this becomes available.
-Peer Educators: I am keeping a roster of students who volunteer to serve as Peer Educators, teaching character education. Students will earn $5 of Monarch Money for each day that they teach a session. For example, if a student taught 2 sessions in September, they will redeem $10 from Dr. McDuffie at the end of the month. Students may only redeem money at the end of the day, right before the bell rings to go home. Students may sign up under my bio page: Click here

Governor’s School Overview - Khulan Khuchitbaatar
Khulan was one of the NHS students who attended Governor's School this summer. The Governor's School coordinators on the county level remembered her impressively from the process last year and asked me to arrange for her to speak at the meeting last night. She shared her reflections of the Governor's School process, the experiences and knowledge she gained while there, and the activities in which she participated.
