Ms. Zitzman's Update
6th Grade Reading and Writing Classes
We're off and running!
It seems like most of the kids are feeling pretty comfortable with middle school by now. Tardies are super-rare--I think I've only had 2 in three weeks! We're hip-deep into the curriculum now, and boy are we busy!
Books are REQUIRED!
In reading class, students should have a book with them EVERY SINGLE DAY. We will read for the first 10 minutes or so daily, and soon we'll start writing responses to our reading. We go to the library every two weeks, but kids can visit the library at lunch, before school, and after school too. And, I have a class library too. No excuse!
Current Curriculum Topics
In English, we are working on conjunctions used in compound sentences and will put the writing process into practice with our first narrative.
In Reading, we are learning/reviewing theme and applying our newly learned dictionary skills to "unpack" the crazy-worded theme questions on the last few STAAR tests.

Every week I post my lesson plans to my webpage. This is also where you can go to see the vocabulary word parts list for reading classes.
