Principal's News

Dear Cliffwood School families,

We are halfway through the school year; time flies when you're having fun! The second marking period just ended and report cards will be posted on Tuesday, 2/11. Report cards are important but please do not let your child's grades be the sole indicator for how well they are doing in school. I encourage all parents/guardians to reach out to their child's teacher(s) regularly to learn about strengths, areas for improvement, and recommendations for how you can help your child at home. These discussions can happen on the phone, via email, or through in-person meetings, and can yield much more information compared to a simple letter grade. Please try your best to stay involved in your child's learning, especially during these elementary years. When the school, its students, and their families all work together, that's when our learners make their greatest strides and we all can be CLIFFWOOD PROUD! Thanks and take care,

Mark Van Horn, Principal

Get ready for a great concert!

Cliffwood will host the 3rd graders' chorus concert on Thursday, 2/6, at 7:00 p.m. in our cafeteria. The kids are sounding great and it should be a fun show. For parking, our school's lot is not very large. If the lot is full, please park across Cliffwood Ave. near Guisti Field (see pic). Police officers will be present to help families safely cross the street before and after the show. Parking on our recess blacktop is not permitted for any vehicles. Thank you and enjoy the show!

Title 1 family night on 2/11

We had great turnout at our first Title 1 family night when we celebrated The Mouse and the Motorcycle. Our next Title 1 event is set for Tuesday, 2/11, at 6:30 p.m. in our cafeteria. This session will focus on kindness and wellness. Students and families can do a craft, learn yoga, listen to a read-aloud, and more. We will have healthy snacks available and many of our great teachers and staff will be in attendance too. Students will bring home RSVP slips on 2/4; please return ASAP if you will be attending. Hope to see you there!

Get caught doing good during RAK Week!

For the week of February 18-21, Cliffwood will be participating in the nationally-recognized Random Acts of Kindness Week. This is an annual opportunity for all stakeholders to connect through simple, contagious acts of kindness. During this week, we are all encouraged to engage in kind acts, no matter how small, and inspire others to do the same. We will have theme days, Kindness-focused morning meetings, a "top secret" kindness mission, and more!

Thanks for supporting a great cause!

Thank you to all of Cliffwood's families who came out to dinner to support our McTeachers Night and Relay for Life. Our school's staff had a great time seeing our kids and their families and together we raised more than $500! Thanks to everyone who supported this cause and we'll see you next year!

Great fun last Friday!

It was so great to see so many Cliffwood students and their families at iPlay America last Friday night! It was a great way to celebrate our students' reading throughout the One School, One Book project. Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed their time.
