Closure Updates & Distance Learning
June 9 Important Information for the TTSD Community
Weekly Message from Superintendent Dr. Rieke-Smith
As we officially head into our last week of school, I will keep my comments brief as I will be communicating out once more later. Please keep an eye out for this communication which will provide further guidance expected from the Governor’s office relative to the fall as well as other important information as we head into summer break.
I continue to be filled with respect and inspiration as the young leaders, our students, in this community step up and use their voice for change. Their fearless convictions have contributed to moving this district to one that, although we acknowledge much work needs to be done, we will continue to be vigilant and address acts of hate and racism as they arise. I, along with our TTSD staff, continue to learn from their experiences and stand alongside them in this work. This past week, Board Chair Maureen Wolf and I released a statement representing the District’s stance on recent and continued acts of hate in our community. Please, if you have not already reviewed it, do so. You will find it here.
At last night’s School Board meeting, our Board passed TTSD’s first Anti-Racist School District Resolution. You can find it here. This Resolution will be a living daily reminder of our collective commitment to our students and hold all of us accountable for this work. I encourage anyone that would like to dig deeper into conversations on hate, racism, and the impact on our students, families, and academic environments please visit our “Anti-Racist School District Resources” page here.
I hope you all had an opportunity to review the communication sent out from TTSD Director of Operations Darin Barnard regarding public accessibility to our campuses. You will find that here. We, as a school district in Oregon, are obligated to follow the Governor’s Executive Orders and district facilities and campuses are closed through June 30. It is important for our community to know that TTSD will be held liable for any cases of the coronavirus that are traced back to our properties. We appreciate your understanding, your support, and we look forward to sharing future details relative to the opening of our campuses for summer use in the coming weeks.
My congratulations to Creekside Community High School’s Class of 2020. I was filled with pride last week as I participated in their virtual graduation celebration. Major kudos to Creekside teachers, staff, and Principal Romas for the way they lifted up our students and their amazing gifts and talents as well as daily wrapped your love and care around them, guiding them to success. I look forward to joining our administrators at both Tualatin and Tigard High School for their celebrations on June 20.
I want to express my profound gratitude and respect for our parents, our community, and especially our students. We, together, have done what some may have thought impossible and we all have learned and grown in that process. Please be looking for ways you can join us in what that will look like. Based on collective input, we will begin anew in the fall, all the better for how we have all come together and worked in partnership in support of each other and, most importantly, for our students.
Again, look for more information coming your way here in a couple of days.

Sign up to Volunteer
Before you sign up, we want to remind all our volunteers to remember to respect the guidelines around wearing masks and observing social distancing. Masks should be worn at all times indoors; please step outside if you would like a break from wearing your mask. We also ask volunteers to remain six feet away from each other -- we recognize this can be challenging, but please make your best effort. And, as always, please continue to wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, and wear gloves while volunteering. Thank you again for your help and support.
If you are unable to volunteer this week, but can afford to chip in $100, $50, or $5 to help us continue the work, please click here: https://packed-with-pride-tigard-tualatin.square.site/
