Fun Winter Literacy Activities
Fire Side Stories – Winter is the perfect time to curl up in front of the fire! Each family member can bring their own book and read individually or take turns reading aloud from the same book. If you need a little motivation to encourage participation, serve hot cocoa and popcorn to all!
Snow Spelling – Take advantage of the latest snowfall and have an outdoor spelling lesson. Kids love to play in the snow, so find a stick (or a spray bottle with water and food coloring) and let your student practice ABC’s and sight words.
Family Game Night –You may not realize it, but many board games promote literacy. Games such as Bananagrams, Scrabble, and Boggle are classic games that sharpen spelling skills. Other less obvious board games foster literacy skills by having participants read game cards, write answers, and describe items.
Cold Weather is Here!
The cooler weather is here to stay. To that end, please ensure your child has warm clothing to wear outside for recess.
Children should have a warm coat, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves. Also, please be sure to label your child’s personal belongings. It is possible for more than one or even two students to have the same jacket, snow pants, boots, etc. They can get mixed up very easily. By labeling their items this will alleviate the problem. Thank you!
A few reminders...
