Is That Ho For Real?

Hypothesis Testing a Claim About Texting and Driving

According to an AAA poll:

94% of teen drivers acknowledge the dangers of texting and driving, but 35% admitted to doing it anyway (see Teen Driver Cell Phone Statistics).

Z-Test, Anyone?

The formula for a z test is as follows:
Big image

Ho and Ha:

Ho: p = .35 (claim)

Ha: p ≠ .35

Work -

Z = (.35-.35)

√((.35*.65)/37) = 0

P Value:

P = .986

(If P is greater than alpha (.05), we Fail To Reject the Ho.)

Should we Reject that Ho?

Well, the Z score was calculated at zero, and the numbers on the graph were -1.96 and +1.96. Since 0 falls in between those numbers, we will Fail to Reject the Ho! (These Ho's Ain't Loyal)
