End of the Year Clean Up
It's time to get rid of practices, routines and habits that are not working for children. If you are teaching in a separate class setting make sure your circle activities are developmentally appropriate. Days of the week and months of the year are not meaningful to preschoolers (especially those with delays) Replace the traditional, rote calendar songs with a review of the day's schedule and include a reference to what happened yesterday and what may happen tomorrow. That information is meaningful. Count the children in attendance, mark the number of acts of kindness or count the number of blocks a child uses to build a tower instead of the numbers on a calendar. You will have a made a meaningful connection for children.
