Aeries Gradebook and Canvas Grade Passback
Setting up for Grade Passback
When setting up your classes in Canvas and Aeries, there are a few thing to remember to ensure your Grade Passback (pushing grades from your graded Canvas assignments) to Aeries operates optimally.
In Aeries, when setting up your classes, please remember:
- Do not link your classes. All classes must remain separate.
- Your categories must match the assignment categories you create in Canvas exactly (punctuation, spelling, spacing, etc.)
Canvas
In Canvas, please remember to:
- Only use your Aeries generated courses, do not use manually created classes
- DO NOT manually add students to your classes, it will cause issues with the grade sync
- Match your categories with your Aeries categories exactly
- If you cross-list, please do so BEFORE students complete any assignments within Canvas

Hiding the Overall Grade
In Canvas
If you are noticing that the grades in Canvas don't match the grades in Aeries, it is because the two gradebooks work differently. To avoid confusion about final grades, it is recommended that you hide the total grade in Canvas, since it can be misleading.
Watch the video below to see how to hide the overall grade in Canvas.
