Help find a cure for Josie...
Support the 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes with Campanelli Magic
It's that time of year again
On Sunday Oct. 6th, team CAMPANELLI MAGIC will come together at the State
Capitol in Sacramento to participate in the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation's (JDRF) Walk to CURE Diabetes. This will be our 9th annual
walkathon and we would love your help with this special cause. We had over
20 walkers last year and raised $4,000.00 with great support from family and
friends! Thank you again and again for your energy and generosity.
We can make a difference together!
As most of you are aware, Josie was diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile)diabetes at the age of 8 (1/31/05). She will be insulin-dependent for the rest of her life (unless a cure is discovered). She has endured over 17,825
finger pricks and gives herself 4-5 shots EVERYDAY. Aside from the daily challenges of living with type 1 diabetes, there are many severe, often fatal, complications caused by this disease which is spreading so rapidly.
As many as three million Americans may have type 1 diabetes. Each year, more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults - approximately 80 people per day -
are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the U.S.
To control Josie's blood sugar, she must count carbohydrates in everything she eats and drinks. She must also plan meals, treat highs and lows which
are affected by exercise, stress, hormones and emotions. It is a struggle to overcome the constant adversity, every hour of everyday, of this disease.
Could you imagine having to take the time to do all of these things 24/7 whether being a teenager or two years old? We work hard as a family to manage and help relieve the stress of this disease. Infusing insulin keeps Josie alive, but it is NOT a cure- only a life support.
DHS Class of 2014
Josie continues to inspire us every day and is a happy normal 17 year old young lady. She is a senior at Davis Senior High school. Continues to play soccer and off to college next year. Oh my!

JDRF exists for one reason: TO FIND A CURE for type 1 diabetes and its complications. More than 85 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
We thank you appreciate you!!!
Our family looks at the Walk, in some way as our "therapy". It's always encouraging and rewarding to see all the love and support that surrounds us.
It's feels rewarding knowing we are making a difference in so many young people's lives, not just Josie's.
