Pearl Harbor
The Japanese surprised the Americans with an attack that was on December 7, 1941 and lasted 110 minutes. Since it wasnt that long the US was expecting another hit but it didnt happen. A total of 2,335 U.S. servicemen were killed and 1,143 were wounded. This attack led the U.S into World War II. Since the attack was in the morning many people were not prepared for it.
Events On US Soil
The bombing in Ellwood Oil Field
Japanese came over in a submarine emerged to the top and shot the facility and then left in the water but luckily there wasn't to much damage.
Operation Pastorius
Eight Nazi's came to the US in order to attack transport hubs, hydroelectric plants, and industrial facilities. The mission was comprimised and no one was hurt.
Japanese Fire Ballons
Japan made ballons that were full of explosives that were supposed to float over to the US and kill many people but it ended up that the US noticed them and shot them down and it only hurt a couple people.
How America Felt
Many people did not like the idea of going into a war like this. The had to get as many people as they could to help out in the war, about 1.2 million people were drafted for a year of service. They had to push the Land-Lease Act through Congress.
The Duquesne Spy Ring
Included 30 men and a couple woman, who disguised themselves as normal civilians in the U.S, working with ships or airplanes, while trying to get information from the Americans they even stole military secrets about bombings. They ended up getting caught in the biggest espinoge bust in american history. The group was convicted and sentenced over 300 years.
