PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
We are very appreciative of your partnership and the love and kindness you have shown to our staff. Thank you for celebrating our hard work through Administrative Professionals Day, Teacher/Staff Appreciation, Friday Sunshine Cart and much more. You truly are the best community!
I would also like to recognize a few of our staff members that will be retiring at the end of this current school year:
- Mrs. Beall has worked for OUSD as an educator for 26 years serving as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and reading resource teacher.
- Mrs. Bond has worked for OUSD as an educator for 23 years serving as a GATE teacher and substitute teacher. Both of our retirees have positively impacted the lives of their colleagues, students and the community.
As everyone starts to prepare for the 2023-2024 school year our bell schedule is tentative but as of now, it will remain the same.
TK-3rd students will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 2:25 p.m., except for Modified Wednesdays, when dismissal will be 12:30 p.m.
Grades 4-6 will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 2:45 p.m., except for Modified Wednesdays, when dismissal will be 12:40 p.m.

As we start to think about the 2023-2024 school year, please understand that a lot of consideration goes into the classroom assignment for each student.
Over the next month, your current teacher will be working with the Principal and support staff to determine the best placement for your child. We are not able to accommodate parent requests for a specific teacher. Our goal is to create balanced instructional classes using the following criteria:
- Learning styles and abilities
- Academic and social-emotional needs
- Peer relationships
- Balance of boys and girls in a class
Thank you again for your kindness, support and love.

LIBRARIAN'S MESSAGE
Here we are at the end of another school year for the library. Thank you to all that have come in to volunteer in shelving and organizing, donating new and used books and participating in the betterment of our Crescent Elementary School Library.
We are so lucky to have such an amazing space that serves the students and staff. Please see the following information for the end-of-the-year procedures and house cleaning needed to tie up loose ends to close the library.
Library Books Due
This week, beginning May 1, we are collecting all library books. If students have any missing, lost or damaged books on their account, they will receive a notice where you may either send in cash to clear their account or replace the item with a like item. Please be sure to place the student’s name and room number on the replacement. Any missing, lost or damaged books that are not cleared will remain on their account even if students move schools in our district.
Device Return:
If your student is in TK through Second or Sixth grade, their current device checked out to them must be returned prior to summer break. Classroom teachers will provide you with the date to return their device. Students going into third will replace the iPad with a Dynabook at the beginning of the school year. Students in Sixth will get a new device at El Rancho. Please check the devices that your children have. EVERY device returned must come back to the school clean and without any missing keys, broken parts (hinge covers are not included), and in good working order. Students must remove any stickers, pictures, and personal information in the devices. If devices are not clean, they will not be accepted or cleared from their account. Students will be issued a device in the fall.
If devices have been damaged, a fee will be assessed and placed on your child’s account. See the fee replacement and repair below:

Summer Reading Opportunities:
We want to be sure students continue reading throughout the summer to maintain their skills and everything they have learned. Keeping those skills they have requires one simple activity: READ. See the links below for free opportunities available to your family. Some are beginning as early as this May.
The City of Anaheim Public Library has so many wonderful opportunities to participate in that are completely free for kids and families.
The Orange County Fair sponsors a Read and Ride Program where children read and earn ride tickets at the fair. It is very simple to do. I tested it out last year with children I knew were going. It was simple and best of all FREE! Click on the link above and it will take you to the printable form you will need to take with you. The paper you will print has an older date but the form still works.
Barnes and Noble has a reading program for children to earn a free book. Simply read the list provided in the link above, have your child/children fill out a short form about their favorite part of the books and turn it in to Barnes and Noble to get a book that is part of their Free Reading Adventure program.
Scholastic has a Summer Reading program that offers kids an exciting, free, and safe summer reading experience, while helping to provide books to kids with limited or no access over the summer, keeping every child reading.
Chuck E. Cheese rewards kids for reading consistently. They earn free play points for simply reading consistently throughout the week! There are also other certificates available to earn rewards as well.
However you decide to spend your summer, I hope it will be filled with wonderful memories. Know that we, at Crescent Elementary School, will be working hard to prepare for our amazing students to come back! See you soon!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Crescent Families,
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and summer is just around the corner! The goal this month is to develop and maintain positive mental health.
I have gone into classrooms and discussed how learning how to recognize, label and regulate our big feelings with coping strategies can help us to be more successful in our schoolwork and with our friendships.
For family activities that can help students to continue to develop their self-awareness, social awareness and self-management skills, please click HERE. You can start to do these activities now and continue them into the summer too!
For other parent and caregiver resources, please click HERE to go to the OUSD Elementary School Counselor Website.
You can also find parent education and workshops on the OUSD website HERE.
It has been a pleasure getting to know your students and I look forward to seeing them grow these important life skills and becoming emotion scientists!
Happy Mental Health Awareness Month!
Ms. Heather
PTA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Crescent Families,
As the school year is winding down and summer approaches, I would like to say THANK YOU for all your support, all your hours spent volunteering and for making this year a great year for our kids.
Without your continued support, none of it would have been possible.
The school year isn’t over yet though, so make sure you have all the end-of-the-year fun marked on your calendars.
So many fun things coming up over the next few weeks: Movie Night, Book Fair, Open House and all the end-of-the-year fun.
For those of you returning to Crescent next year, we look forward to seeing you.
Please consider signing up for a committee. We want to make next as great as this year, if not better.
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for allowing me to serve as your PTA President this year. It has truly been an honor and a privilege.
Thank you!
Jennifer Rea

STATE TESTING SCHEDULE
To help our families manage scheduling appointments and/or absences during State Testing, we would like to share the tentative testing schedule.
Please note this schedule may change at any time. If your child is in grades 3-6, please avoid scheduling appointments during the school day for the month of May.
Also, to reduce distractions during testing, we ask that all students arrive at school on time.

Paper Tutoring Information: We have some incredible news to share! We are thrilled to announce that Orange Unified School District will continue its partnership with Paper to provide ALL 4th-6th grade students with free, 1-on-1, tutoring and writing support.
When students log in and start a session, they are instantly connected with subject-matter experts that guide your students through problems step-by-step, without giving away the answers. This way, students can walk away from sessions feeling confident that they understand the material and have the tools to succeed on their future assignments and exams.
Here are a few ways Paper can support you and your students this school year:
Unlimited 24/7/365 tutoring support — sessions can run for as long as students need!
Revisions for any typed writing assignments in 24 hours or less!
