The Round-Up
The Sonoma Ranch Elementary School Principal's Newsletter
Year 7 Issue 196
We Engage We Educate We Inspire
Each Sunday throughout the school year you will receive The Round-Up. It will be delivered via text/email. The Round-Up will speak to all things Sonoma Ranch. I try my best to make sure I include all relevant information for the week, so as to avoid inundating your inbox with communication.
As a parent of two GPS students, I recognize the volume of emails we receive from GPS. My goal is to be concise in what I share. I usually send the Round-Up out on Sunday. Then throughout the week, I will send out quick reminders about events. We typically receive high marks from parents with regard to Sonoma Ranch communications. My goal is to inform, not overwhelm.
Sonoma Ranch Elementary has a presence in the social media world. We have both an Instagram and Twitter account. The same content is posted to both, and it is a fun way to see all the amazing things happening at the Ranch. Follow us @Stallion_Strong on Twitter and Instagram ( https://www.instagram.com/stallion_strong/?hl=en)
Friday will be our very first Stallion Style day of the year. Stallion Style Days are days where we wear our school colors or Stallion gear to school. Now certainly students can wear those items any day, but on Stallion Style Fridays, we all make sure we show our school spirit by wearing black, grey, teal, or Stallion gear. We will continue this tradition online this Friday!
If you ordered a new SRE PTSO School Shirt, we should receive them the week of August 10th. We will let you know of dates for distribution ASAP.
We have created a resource of information for families of students who attend the Ranch. It is called the Family Handbook. I would encourage all families to check it out. There is a great deal of information included within. If you'd like a hard copy of the handbook, please send me an email and I'll get one sent to you.
Student Attendance Online

Last spring students going into fifth grade were asked to select a music class. If you have not signed up for a music class please help your child start their specials classes on day one by selecting your music class.

Support for Online Instruction
Each of the buttons below will remain in the Round-Up each week so you have easy access. They are also available on the parent resources page of our website.
School Supply Lists
As in-person instruction will require us to no longer have "shared" items for students in the classroom, we have asked our teachers to review and revise their class lists. Students will need to bring their own materials that will be kept separate from their classmates. Supply lists are posted on the SRE website.
Chromebooks
We will send out an email Monday morning with directions on picking up your Chromebook if you haven't yet done so.
Virtual Meet the Teacher Night
The sign up for Virtual Meet the Teacher Night will be included in with your teacher's welcome back video.
First Day of School
The first day will begin with students logging into their teacher's online classrooms at 8:00 AM.
Online Instruction
- All students will begin school online using the Buzz and Florida Virtual curriculum platform. Each teacher will have a daily/weekly schedule.
- Students will log on at various times throughout the day. They will not be expected to log on and remain online for the entire day.
- The online schedule will mirror what an in-person day will look like for students.
- The schedule will include both "live" instruction time with teachers as well as time throughout the day where students will work on their schoolwork.
- All live instruction sessions will be recorded and available for families to view later if their schedule does not allow for real-time viewing.
- While teachers will teach their live lessons to the entire class, small group instruction will be a large part of our online instruction.
- Teachers will teach whole group, small group, and one on one live lessons.
- All students will go to their specials (PE, music, library, art, band, strings) following our building schedule.
- Each teacher will share their daily/weekly schedule with students/families.
- Information on how families will access the online platform will be shared in the days to come.
Governors Executive Order Update
GPS Statement regarding Student Behavior Expectations during Online Learning
COVID-19 school closures have significantly impacted all our lives. This situation, however, has not altered the Gilbert Public Schools’ desire to provide a quality educational environment for students. It is extremely important that all students remember that, while utilizing online learning opportunities, it is still their responsibility to interact appropriately with teachers and other students at all times. This means that, although we are not physically together, students must follow established teacher online classroom rules, including treating each other with respect. Students are accountable for their own behavior.
If a student is determined to not be following appropriate behavioral expectations as listed in the link below, they are likely to receive consequences. Please be a team player and help us work together through this challenging time!
Parents and guardians, please review the student expectations below with your child.
