April is Autism Awareness Month
The12th annual World Autism Awareness Day is April 2, 2019.
Joined by the international community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes, and communities around the world, sport light blue in recognition of people living with autism. Autism-friendly events and educational activities take place all month to increase understanding and acceptance and foster worldwide support.

Criminal Justice Fellows Program
The North Carolina Criminal Justice Fellows Program will provide forgivable educational loans for high school seniors who agree to enter a criminal justice career in North Carolina. This fellowship will fund an Applied Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, or Committee approved related field of study, from any North Carolina Community College System school in an eligible county. Students who receive the educational loan would have five years to repay, though it would be forgiven if they enter and remain in a criminal justice profession with North Carolina for four years in an eligible county.
The student must be a resident of an eligible county (see forms page) at the time of application.

Attention Sophomores and Juniors!! College Board Update
Taking the SAT is a key step on the road to college and career—and now, there's a chance for students to be rewarded for their efforts with the College Board Opportunity Scholarships. This program guides students through the college planning process and offers a chance to earn money for college.
The program is open to all class of 2020 students in the United States, Puerto Rico, and other U.S. territories. Class of 2021 students will be eligible beginning in late 2019. Your students can complete key steps along their path to college for a chance to earn scholarships, including:
Build Your College List: $500
Explore colleges and universities on BigFuture™ and save six or more to your list. A total of 100 Build Scholarships will be awarded monthly, through June.
Practice for the SAT: $1,000
Practice for six hours or more on Official SAT Practice from Khan Academy®. A total of 150 Practice Scholarships will be awarded monthly through October.
Improve Your Score: $2,000
Practice 12 hours or more using Official SAT Practice and improve your score by 100 or more points from the PSAT/NMSQT® to SAT, or SAT to SAT. A total of 25 Improve Scholarships will be awarded after every SAT, starting in April 2019.

Summer Enrichment Opportunities
Summertime is THE PERFECT TIME for students to jump-start their futures! One of the most rewarding things students can do is to participate in an academic enrichment program on a college/university campus. By doing so, students can

- Broaden their knowledge of a particular subject.
- Learn more about their interests.
- Cultivate an interest in a college/university.
- Determine if a program/environment might be a good fit later on.

The American Legion- Tar Heel Boys' State Program
Boys' State is an intense workshop concentrating on North Carolina state government and politics. Only males who have successfully completed their junior year of high school and have at least one more semester of high school remaining are considered eligible to participate. Delegates representing all geographic areas of North Carolina participate annually in this program. For applications and more information, contact Mrs. Ragland. Deadline to apply May 15, 2019
2019 American Legion Student Trooper Program
The purpose of the North Carolina American Legion Student Trooper Programs is to create an association between our young people and the men and women who are responsible for enforcing the laws of our state.
