Dear Barron Park Families,

We hope 2020 is off to a good start for all of you. This past January 23, I had the opportunity to share some very positive statewide test score data for our school at the PTA General Meeting. Thank you to those that were able to attend. For families that could not make it, I wanted to make sure the slides are available to you as well. A separate email will be sent out with this information provided. If you have any questions please feel free to catch me out in the parking lot before school.

In summary, Barron Park experienced significant gains for all five of our reportable subgroups. Fifteen points is the minimum threshold the Dashboard uses to be rated as increased significantly. All five of our subgroups increased in range from 26-62 points in both English Language Arts and Math. Well over the 15 point threshold.

There are many reasons for these positive increases and much of this information is included in the slides. I can’t say enough about our wonderful Barron Park educators. This is a special group that is fully committed to making sure all children reach their maximum potential. We are proud of our students too. Many have experienced positive gains and these are special moments for us as a staff when we celebrate student progress together. Also reflected in the slides is the appreciation of our PTA. Our Executive Board and parent volunteers are so supportive. We can’t do this important work without you.

PAUSD provides all schools with three Professional Learning Days per year. Our final one for 2019-2020 is this Thursday, February 13. We have a thoughtful day planned that helps us build on our efforts to raise the academic achievement levels and Social Emotional Learning opportunities for all students.

Make sure to enjoy the long weekend as a family. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Wednesday, February 19!

We are starting to plan for next school year so please help get the word out to any incoming Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergartener families you know. Priority 1 Registration opened in January and will conclude on February 12, 2020. Round 1 registration provides enrollment priority and is only for current residents. Newly registered Kindergarten families will receive a personal invitation to join the Barron Park Principal and PTA on a tour scheduled for Friday, February 21 at 8:30 am. During this time, incoming families will have the opportunity to hear from staff, parents, tour our Kindergarten classrooms and hear about other programs offered at our wonderful school. It is an opportunity parents will not want to miss. We will hold the meeting in the library. Thanks for your help getting the word out.

Inclusive School Week

Barron Park celebrated Inclusive Schools Week for this past week. Students and staff cooperated to develop meaningful activities for everyone. Student Government organized poster making sessions to advertise inclusive school’s week, and hung the posters around the campus. In addition, we held a peaceful school wide march for inclusion. Students learned that marches are an effective way to enact social change. Please talk to your students about the inclusion activities they found meaningful, and whether the activities changed your students’ perceptions about inclusion and disability.
