FALL BACK: Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend
CLOCKS WILL “FALL BACK” ONE HOUR AS DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME COMES TO AN END.
Oster's RAINY DAY and Cold Weather GUIDELINES
On rainy days and in cold weather, we will continue to play and eat outdoors as much as possible (we do have covered spaces). However, depending on how rainy and windy it is, we may have students eating and playing indoors. Below are the guidelines and helpful reminders:
- Make sure your child comes to school with a jacket as we will be eating outside when it's cold and playing outside when there is a light sprinkle and cold weather.
- Leave a few minutes earlier in the morning because more families will be driving to school if it rains.
- Write students' names or initials on jackets, hats, and umbrellas.
- Place umbrellas and rain jackets near the door or in the car. If your child is going to use an umbrella please go over how to open it and carry it safely.
- Have your child have their jackets on before getting in the car to leave for school. That way, you are not holding up traffic in the drop-off zone when trying to get their jacket on.
Substitute Teachers Needed
There is currently a substitute shortage across the state and specifically in our district. We would like to spread the word in recruiting more individuals for the position. If you love working and supporting students, becoming a substitute teacher at USD may be the perfect fit. We would love to have you at Oster working with our great teachers, staff, and students!!
If you wish to become a substitute with the Union School District, please contact Terri Skipworth by email at skipwortht@unionsd.org, and let me know that you have reached out. To be eligible for substitute teaching, you will need the following: Your completed application packet Valid California Credential(s) or Emergency 30-Day Sub Permit** Verification of having passed the CBEST* (CA Basic Education Skills Test) A current TB test result (within the last four years) or a TB Risk Assessment Substitute Teacher Pay Rate: Daily Rate: $170 ($85.000 half-day) Long-Term Substitute Daily Rate: $201.45
Parent Teacher Conferences
This year, conferences will be held November 7-9, 14-18. We will be on early release days (school is out at 1:15pm (1st-5th) (TK/K at 1:05) everyday during this time.
Conferences are scheduled in time blocks set by the teachers. We ask your cooperation in being prompt to your conference time and date so there will be maximum time to talk about your child.
Please consider the items below before the conference to help with your conversation with the teacher:
· What are your child's strengths and needs?
· Does your child enjoy reading and/or writing?
· Does your child have an interest in math and/or science?
· How does your child show interest in art, drama and music?
· What physical activities does your child enjoy?
· How do you support school learning at home? How often do you read with your child?
· Is there educational, family, and/or medical history that may affect your child's educational growth that should be shared with the teacher? (This information will be kept confidential.)
Research shows that parent involvement in a child's education is a critical factor in determining the degree to which a child will be successful in school. Please make attending the parent/teacher conference one of the ways you will be involved in your child's education.
Education Fund - Donate today!
The Education Fund is Oster Home & School Club’s largest annual fundraiser with a goal of $100,000 (60% of HSC’s budget) by November 18th!
How does HSC direct your donation? Glad you asked! HSC funds programs that support our students, faculty and school that are NOT covered by the State or District… specifically, enrichment programs and activities, such as: field trips, Project Cornerstone, Art Vistas, software upgrades, PE courses, science quiz, music program, and more. These programs support our students, faculty and school, and are not covered by the State or District. For more information on programs funded, check out the Education Fund flier.
DON’T FORGET TO ASK IF YOUR COMPANY OFFERS AN EMPLOYER-MATCH PROGRAM; MATCHING MAKES A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON REACHING OUR GOAL AND MANY COMPANIES OFFER THIS INCENTIVE.
Our direct funding is budgeted at over $250 per Oster student each year, so we kindly suggest a donation of $250 per student.
Why wait?? Donate today!
