We are proud to host beloved national artist instructor Lesley Venable for our November Creative Exchange. Join her and her Flatwoods Folkart Road Show and artistic talents all the way from Roanoke, VA to the Arts Alliance Creative Exchange. Come join us as we create individual and personalized soldered Shadowbox Shrine necklaces together - can you say adore-able?! These wearable reliquaries will showcase a favorite cherished image tiny treasured object or both.
Using vintage ephemera, small treasures and the easiest of techniques each student artist will come out of class with a beautiful, one of a kind, soldered masterpiece.Wear your piece home as a necklace, gift it to someone special or simply hang it for adornment or inspiration. This is a wonderful no stress class that will teach some way-cool techniques that allows you to leave with a lovely finished art-to-wear creation!
According to Lesley, she finds herself "realizing that we are all dream seekers and journey makers. We are constantly in thought processes that take us from blank beginnings to highly (or lowly) embellished endings…from a blank canvas to a finished masterpiece.
These journeys are what thrill me…the leaps of faith are so energizing that I find that I want to constantly be in my studio, at my work table or on the hunt for the next weird thing that may wind up in a finished piece."
Fill your creative toolbox with new techniques to learn how to create unique necklaces from vintage findings & more:
- Organic Soldering
- Using Fluid Chalks & Water Soluble Pencils
- Old Mirror Effect on Glass (super simple!)
- Solder Stamping
- Embellishing

Lesley adds,"I've been told that my classes feel very Zen like. I love that because it tells me that the student is able to relax and enjoy the creative process. As a teacher I truly do love seeing the "aha" moments on an artist’s face and to see them walk away with a tangible piece that was, just a few hours before, simply an idea. It is truly such a gift to me to have those experiences.Whether you are just beginning or you are a seasoned veteran the best lesson to know is that there are no mistakes in art and creativity. Truly…there aren’t! I promise!"
