From the desk of Sr. Kucinski
Dearest La ola del lago Families,
It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving Break is here!
La ola del lago is a Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) school. At LODL we use WAVES to identify school wide expectations (Worker, Accountable, Value Everyone, Safe) and we use WAVES tickets to reinforce those positive and expected behaviors. PBIS includes Positive Behavior Expectations as well as processes to reinforce the positive and expected behaviors.
Please click on the links below to view the PBIS forms that LODL uses. These are what we use to communicate with families when we are reinforcing positive behavior as well as when we are redirecting behaviors with students that are not in line with our expectations (WAVES).

If you have any questions about PBIS or student behavioral management, please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to LODL Principal, Richie Kucinski, or LODL Dean of Students, Samantha Schenkelberg.

New school safety feature
Subject: New school safety feature
We are excited to share some important news regarding enhanced safety measures at our school entrance. We have recently installed a new video intercom system outside the main entrance that will serve as an additional layer of security, allowing us to better control access to our school.
All visitors must press the call button on the video intercom to notify front office staff in order to gain admittance to the building. Our staff will be able to communicate with visitors directly through the intercom, ensuring only authorized individuals gain access. Signs will be posted to help everyone learn how to use the system.
Once inside, authorized visitors will still be required to sign in using our visitor management system to gain access beyond the front office/check-in area.
The intercom system has been installed as part of the district’s partnership with the Department of Homeland Security to conduct assessments at our schools called, “Security at First Entry” or “S.A.F.E.”
If you have any questions or concerns as we launch this new feature, please let me know so we can work to ensure our school remains a safe and welcoming learning environment. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our school safe!

Fastbridge Learning Assessments
Dear Families,
FastBridge Learning assessments are taken by students in Kindergarten through 8th grade three times a year in both reading and math and take approximately 25 minutes to complete. Results give teachers individualized information about a student’s progress in mastering the skills they need to be able to learn at grade level. Follow the directions below to access your child’s FBL scores.
Log in to the Parent Portal
At the bottom of the navigation bar, click on “More”
A drop-down menu appears: click on “Assessments”
Scroll through the list to “FastBridge Assessments”
FBL scores are reported as a scaled score, which is assigned a level of risk of the student not being at grade level by the end of the year. This risk level roughly predicts MCA achievement level (high, some, low risk, or on track FBL risk levels roughly correlate to does not meet, partially meets, meets, and exceeds on the MCA).
For guidance on how to interpret your students’ assessment results, please refer to our website:
www.plsas.org > Academics > LAI > Assessment and Improvement > Family Interpretation Guides
The district testing calendar is also available on the PLSAS assessment website.
Be a Host Family?
From the Dean: Attendance Matters
We have had a great start to the 2023-24 school year and we want to continue to support students and families with school attendance. In connection with our attendance policy, the attendance team regularly reviews attendance, and sends home letters quarterly to any student who has missed 10% or more of school.
Being proactive with attendance and supporting families is a priority at La ola del lago. At this point if your student(s) has missed 5 or more days of school that equals 10% of their year and you will be receiving a letter in mail in the next couple of weeks. We understand that some absences may be connected to vacation or illness, but this still attributes to the total amount of days missed. The purpose of the attendance letters is to communicate and inform.
We are here to support you to solve any problems, barriers, or concerns you - or your student(s) may have when it comes to attendance.
