Introduction
Description - Winston Churchill
Winston Churchill is a famous and inspirational historical figure. He was born in Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, United Kingdom on November 30, 1874. His childhood started off a little bit rough. For example, his parents were never around for him and his nanny would watch him even more than his own mother. Then, in school, he was a troublemaker, and he was struggling with poor grades. The first school that he went to was Harrow School, a boarding school near London. Within weeks of his joining, he joined the Harrow Rifle Corps, which created a pavement to his military career. At first, things weren’t looking so good for Churchill military wise. It took him three times to pass the exam for the British Royal Military College. However, once he succeeded, he “took off” and graduated 20th in his class of 130 peers. Throughout his life he has shown himself to be brave, smart, hard working, and kind. For example, when he was a prime minister, Churchill rallied the British people during WWII, and led his country from the brink of defeat to the jaws of victory. He also helped modernize the British Navy while he was serving as First Lord of the Admiralty. However, he is best known for being Britain’s prime minister for most of World War II. During this time, he kept the British people positive and refused to give up, no matter how high or low the odds were. Winston Churchill once said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” From this quote, we know that Winston Churchill was always willing to fight until the end. He would be able to put up with anything thrown his way, and stayed positive through rough times. As they say, people’s true character shows when people face pressure. In Winston’s case, his was brave, smart, hard working, and kind. In conclusion, Winston Churchill will forever be known as one of the greatest prime ministers of Britain.

Cause and Effect - Jackie Robinson
The problem that Jackie Robinson had to face in his life was racism. All the time people would throw racial slurs his way. The MLB umpires would not be fair towards him. The pitchers would throw baseballs at his head. They treated him unfairly just because he was black. The only person who was on Jackie’s side was Branch Rickey. Rickey told him that whatever was thrown his way, he could not fight back. If Jackie would have fought back, it would give people another reason why they didn’t want black people in the majors. The solution to Jackie’s problem was to stay positive. He held his head up high and ignored all of the insults thrown at him. Jackie remembered that no matter what happened, Jackie’s family and Branch Rickey would be right by his side. That was what made Jackie Robinson unique. Not only was he the first African-American player in the pros, but he always kept his cool and had the guts to not fight back. This is why Jackie Robinson went on to become one of the best players to ever play in the majors.
Problem/Solution - Losing To Win
The video “Losing To Win” is about teenage girls on a basketball team at Carroll Academy who have gone through many varieties of hardships. For those girls, things weren’t looking so bright until they joined the team. Basketball provided an escape from the real world for the girls. The problem for the Lady Jags is that they can’t seem to win a game. They’ve lost 218 straight. They feel disappointed in themselves, as well as each other. The solution for the Lady Jags is to stay positive and have a good attitude. Winston Churchill once said, “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” This quote can relate to the Lady Jags because as they lose game after game, attitude is going to be a big part in how they feel about themselves going forward in life. If they try their best and never give up, they can succeed. As long as they avoid negative thoughts, they will have a good future ahead of them.
