The Song List

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

What would this list be if I didn't include "Eye of the Tiger"? I feel like this song describes how Dally feels. The lyrics, "Rising up, back on the street/ Took my time took my chances," and, "You must fight, just to keep them alive," seems to depict Dally's situation. It also seems like the line, "Hanging tough, staying hungry," seems to be his motto. The music and the intensity sounds exactly like Dally would.

Count on Me by Bruno Mars

I'd say this would describe the gang's feelings towards each other. The song is saying that you can "count on me/like one, two three/and I'll be there", which is saying that they'll always be there for each other, and the lines, "I can count on you/ like four, three, two/ and you'll be there," shows that they know that their friends are there for them. The rest of the song is saying that whenever you need help, I can help you, and I feel like this songs perfectly describes the gang's friendship with each other.
Count On Me - Bruno Mars Lyrics

Something Big by Shawn Mendes

I feel like this song describes the feeling that the gang is getting when they're on their way to the rumble. A lyric from the songs is, "It's like that feeling when you're just about to kill it/ Take your last shot you know you're gonna hit it/ Somethings's in the air/ Something's in the air". I feel like the tempo and music to this song really describes the intense, exciting feeling of heading to a fight. It seems to get your adrenaline going, and I bet that everyone can agree that, "Something big is happening/ out of my control/ Pushing, falling, and it's grabbing me/ Feel it in my bones."
Shawn Mendes - Something Big (lyrics)

Who Knew by P!nk

I feel like this song describes how Ponyboy would be feeling after everyone has died. With lyrics like, "You promised me you'd be around," and "Remember when we were such fools/ And so convinced and just too cool," P!nk is reminiscing about when she used to be with this person. In the chorus is says, "If someone said three years from now/ You'd be long gone/ I'd stand up and punch them out/ 'Cause they're all wrong," which shows how Ponyboy must be feeling. He wouldn't have believed if someone told him that Johnny AND Dally would die. Ponyboy really misses them, and I feel like this song reflects that sadness and loneliness.
Pink-Who Knew Lyrics

Bad Day by Daniel Powter

I feel like this describes Ponyboy after he got his concussion and he's all confused and still sad about Johnny. One of the lyrics is, "They tell me your blue skies fade to gray/ They tell me your passion's gone away." This lines depicts how everyone probably saw Ponyboy as he was recuperating from the sickness and seemed dead-but-alive.

Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne

I picture this song describing what the gang needs to hear when Dally and Johnny die. The first four lines are, "You're not alone/ together we stand/ I'll be by your side/ You'll now I'll take your hand." These lyrics depict the gang standing together after what's happened, and being there for each other. In the chorus, it says, "Keep holding on/ 'Cause you know we'll make it through/ We'll make it through/ Just stay strong," and I feel like this is exactly how the gang would be feeling. It might be hard, but they'll make it through together if they keep holding on.
Avril Lavigne - Keep Holding On - Lyrics

Stay Gold by Stevie Wonder

If the title doesn't give away why I chose this, here's some more reasons:

In the first verse, it says to, "Seize that moment long ago/ One breath away and there you will be/ So young and carefree/ Again you will see/ That place in time... so gold." That lyric is probably what Ponyboy and anyone from the gang wants to do. They want to think about the past when it was better. When Johnny and Dally were alive. They want to go back to "the gold". There's a line later in the songs that says, "Nothing can ever... and be in time/ Stay gold." This is what Ponyboy comes to realize. Nothing can stay gold forever. But it also says later in the song that the gold stays in our memories, and we only need to remember them to be reminded of the gold.

Stevie Wonder - Stay Gold Lyrics
