Condit Elementary Weekly Bulletin
9/17/18
Message from Dr. Malally
We had a great first full week of school last week! Everyone seems to have settled into their new routines, and we are off and running. We had a very successful Volunteer Training last Tuesday in our MPR. Thank you to everyone who participated. If you were not able to attend, please contact Beth or Heidi in our front office, and they can get you set up. Thank you also to all of you who have been abiding by our new visitor check-in system. Remember, if you need to come on campus, and go anywhere besides the front office, you will need to bring your driver's license to be scanned and issued a visitor pass.
We kicked off of first 100 Mile Club this last Friday! It was so great to watch our new friends get started earning their miles. There was so much excitement. Our first Saturday 100 Mile Club will be this Saturday at Condit from 9:00 - 10:00AM. We hope to see everyone there. Remember families can join the 100 Mile Club too!
I did want to share that this past Friday, I visited every fourth, fifth and sixth grade classroom to discuss two things: Discipline Expectations and Cell Phones/Watches. In regards to Discipline/Expectations, I shared with our upper grade students that because they are now considered in upper grade, comments, threats, and discussions regarding the use of any type of weapon, etc. are taken more serious. On a suspension form, there are specific areas that a fourth grader could be suspended for, that they may not have been suspended for when they were in third or second grade. The reality is that our upper grade students should know right from wrong, and they all told me that they did. I strongly encouraged our students to make good choices when making comments to others, and even if they say they were "joking around," all threats would be taken seriously. In regards to the cell phones/watches, I reminded students of our school rule. Most all of our students knew the rule. I did explain to students that watches that are sending notifications (texts, phone ringing, etc.) to a students' watch, need to be disabled or turned off when they are in school. The students did a great job asking questions and clarifying the expectations of my discussion. For more information regarding cell phone/watches, please see below.
Finally, I wanted to send out a HUGE thank you to PFA and our families who donated food and their time for our staff luncheon last Thursday. It was beautiful and delicious.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
Cell Phones/Watches
Except for prior consent for health reasons, use of personal electronic signaling devices, including but not limited to cellular/digital telephones at school is prohibited. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that his/her cellular phone is turned off and secured at all times during the school day. The school shall not be deemed responsible for stolen cell phones, nor responsible for replacement, stolen airtime, or damage. The consequences for the first violation of school rules regarding use of cellular phones are: Confiscation and Return to parent Violation recorded in student discipline record. While problems related to the use of cellular phones and other electronic signaling devices are limited at the elementary school level, as always our intention is to protect the learning environment from disruptions. A student experiencing a health problem should ask to go to the health office. Students needing to use such devices for health-related purposes are permitted to do so with signed consent from a licensed physician.

PFA NEWS
The Condit Caller Student Directory
The Condit PFA will publish its annual school directory, The Condit Caller, again this fall. Condit families are encouraged to advertise your businesses to our school community. Advertising in the Condit Caller is a great way to let other Condit families know about your local business or professional service you provide. All families who join PFA receive a copy of the Condit Caller. Ad revenues support our PFA which funds critical educational and enrichment programs, playground equipment, our school library, technology upgrades and more. Ads start at $50, are available in black/white or color, and enjoy long “shelf life” because parents refer to the invaluable Caller throughout the school year and beyond. The deadline to submit payment, ad copy (jpg preferred), and sign up form is Friday, September 21st. For more information, please contact Amanda Thompson at 909-910-9850 or Amanda@acreativestring.com.
Also, don’t forget to send back your Condit PFA membership envelope and Condit Caller Directory Information Sheet with your Back to School Packet!!
Be sure to check out CUSD's latest Parent Engagement Calendar which include Mental Health, District Committees, College Awareness Workshops, and Parenting Workshops. These are great opportunities to become more informed!
The 100 Mile Club in 2018-2019
We LOVE to have our family members join the 100 Mile Club, and want to include your miles in our school-wide goals. For any person that is not an enrolled student at Condit, we will continue to pass out "Guest" sticks. Students will continue to collect our usual sticks stamped with Condit on them, but the "Guest" sticks will be blue. If you are a family member that plans on joining the 100 Mile Club, please make sure that you are collecting the blue sticks for each lap that you do. Outside events will be credited based on the registration forms that indicate participants name.
