Saving Oceans
Shout Out! to Toisnot MS Teachers Vicky Le and Nannie Mullens for collaborating on the global 2019 Students Rebuild Challenge focusing on ocean conservation. Ms. Le's eighth-grade science classes worked as a team with Ms. Mullen's sixth-grade science classes on the project. To participate, the students had to design and create their own sea creatures from recycled materials based on what they had learned in class. For each piece of artwork submitted, Students Rebuild donated $4 to youth-focused, science-based programs aimed at developing a new generation of conservationists. Toisnot submitted 514 creatures to raise $2,056!

MORE SHOUT OUTS!
- "My daughter has been very sick, and she is at Duke Hospital. She is a student at the Wilson Academy of Applied Technology, and I want to Shout Out! one of her Wilson Community College teachers from last semester, Leslie Harrell, and also one of her classmates named Ethan. Both of them have been so supportive checking on her. They are the kind of people we should all hope to be, and I am so thankful for them and all of the support I've gotten from Wilson County Schools." - Tricia Metzler, Teacher at Hearne ES
- Shout Out! to Myles, a senior at Fike HS, for being awarded the 2019 William Clary Medal Scholarship by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Myles and a student from Charles E. Jordan HS in Durham were the two recipients. Winners of the Clary Medal are awarded a one-time $2,000 scholarship and a commemorative plaque. Myles is a standout member of the soccer and baseball teams at Fike, and he culminated his athletic career by being named to the All-State soccer team. Myles will attend Wake Forest University in the fall as a Gordon Scholar. He is the son of Hearne ES Principal Kelvin Cyrus.
- "I just wanted to Shout Out! Instructional Technology Facilitator Joseph Hayes for going out of his way to help me with my National Board Certification papers. He has met with me several times at WAAT and given me useful tips and strategies I can use in my journey to complete this challenging task. He's truly one of WCS's best!" - Karen Carlos, Science Teacher at Wilson Academy of Applied Technology
*From Executive Director of Technology Donna Malloy - "Our ITFs do so much more than assist with technology (as proven in the Shout Out! above). They coteach, mentor and support our teachers in any way they can. I have an amazing team!"
