Principal's Corner
Dear Lake Forest Community High School,
IT’S FRIDAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I am writing this after our morning announcement–where a group of us ecstatically yell it into our intercom system. It is a fun way to start the morning–at the very least for those of us who are participating. I saw several of our Scouts laughing as they were walking past the front office, too!
November is a month of gratitude, and I am hoping that every member of the Lake Forest community will fill out a Good Gobble for a staff member! It is quick, it is easy, and you can fill out as many as you would like! I am asking that you include the staff’s email to help organize them, and it’s very simple to find!
Next Friday is our Annual Veterans Day ceremony–and what an awesome tribute to the Veterans in our community! As many of you know, I have my own veteran in the Lenart house–21 years of service for LTC (ret.) Michael Lenart. For those veterans in our community, on behalf of Lake Forest High School, we salute you. May you (and your family’s) service and sacrifice be remembered today, Veterans Day and always.
Yesterday, we had our second Portrait of a Learner Strategic Planning session. I am so impressed with the thoughtfulness and commitment of this team–we are free to agree, disagree, and finally come to a common understanding about what we want for our students and Lake Forest High School. In my table group, the student leader who is participating consistently provided us with on-the-ground examples of what students want, hope for, and need. I was reminded of many themes that consistently emerge from the Principal’s Advisory Council as well, so I am looking forward to seeing what will emerge as the District’s priorities.
At Tuesday’s school board meeting, we heard from Dr. Rachel Abel, one of our Instructional Directors. Dr. Abel specifically leads World Languages and our Multilingual Supports–and her presentation focused on the growth of our English Language Learner program, and how she has partnered with families and her staff to support these Scouts. Also, at the Board meeting, we took time to share our One Lake Forest High School vision statement, adopted by the School Board last year. This statement serves as the District’s shared commitment to eliminating barriers, and responsibility to “create an environment that maximizes the possibility for each student’s growth” (D115 Core Values). Here is a link to the District’s One Lake Forest Community High School statement.
Last weekend, I visited Halas Hall (!) to watch our Scouts play in the annual tournament for flag football. What an awesome experience that few will ever have, and I have to admit I was a little overwhelmed walking into the Walter Payton Center. I wondered how many have dreamed of seeing the inside, and how many actually have the opportunity. BUT then, I saw our Scouts and quickly shifted my focus to pay attention to the real stars–Lake Forest High School students. And naturally, I was the loudest fan there. LET’S GO SCOUTS!
Here is to always being a Fan of the Scouts!
Yours,
Erin

Safety and Security Advisory Committee
We are currently seeking staff, student and parent volunteers to serve on the LFHS Safety and Security Advisory Committee. Membership will be limited to five (5) volunteers from each group. The purpose of the committee is to provide input and feedback on issues impacting school safety and security at Lake Forest High School. The Advisory Committee will meet on a quarterly basis during the 22/23 school year.
If you are interested, please email Lane Linder at llinder@lfschools.net by November 14, 2022.
Safety and Security Updates
In the next few weeks, Lane Linder, SRO Mark Long and members of the administrative team will be visiting student tables in the cafeteria to discuss school safety. The information shared with the students will include situational awareness, the Run-Hide-Defend protocol and the Confidential Reporting Tool. The purpose of these conversations is to promote collaboration with our students on safety and security issues and improve readiness under our emergency operations plan. We will also be providing students with a quick reference card that contains important safety reminders on these topics. Please feel free to email Lane Linder at llinder@lfschools.net if you have any questions or concerns.

Human Rights Club Day of Compassion
Little Theatre
Lake Forest High School presents this year's Frosh-Soph Show: Rhinoceros. Tickets are now available at bit.ly/LFHS-Rhino22. Spread the word!
The sublime is confused with the ridiculous in this savage commentary on the human condition, a staple of every theatre classroom and 20th-century drama. A small town is besieged by one roaring citizen who becomes a rhinoceros and proceeds to trample on the social order. As more citizens are transformed into rhinoceroses, the trampling becomes overwhelming, and more and more citizens become rhinoceroses. One sane man, Berenger, remains, unable to change his form and identity.
