What a fun Theater Week!

This week, students at Washington School enjoyed our annual Theater Week program. Over a hundred students participated in the weeklong after-school program, culminating in a wonderful program today! The staff and student body were treated to a sneak-peak at the "Legend of Bully Jo" this afternoon. There will be another performance this evening at Washington School at 7:00. Congratulations to all of the students who participated in this wonderful event, and a huge thank you to the PSO for making the program possible for our students every year!

Rainbow Snacks

Every year Washington School hosts our "Rainbow Snack" initiative to promote healthy diets and trying new foods. To make it fun, we tally how many students in each class participate. Next week will be green week!

Save the Date: Open House

This year's Washington School Open House will be Thursday, April 7th. You won't want to miss this opportunity to visit your child's classroom to see all that they have accomplished this year! We also will be hosting our first Open House Art Show in the All Purpose Room, where you will have the opportunity to view and purchase a piece of your child's artwork. As a reminder, students are invited to attend Open House as well. The evening's events will take place from 6:30-8:00. We look forward to seeing you there!

A Note Regarding Community Flyers...

In our on-going efforts to reduce paper and go green, the district is piloting an online opportunity for managing the flyers we receive from our community partners. If you click on http://bit.ly/WWRSDcommunityflyers you will be taken to the community portion of our website where you can access: 1) the newest flyers received in the current week, 2) flyers received previously and are still active, and 3) an archive of older flyers that are no longer active, but available for your review.

PARCC Talking Points

As the PARCC assessment draws closer, I will be sending out informational updates to keep you abreast of important information about the test.

Study Commission Started by Governor Christie Reaffirms Commitment to PARCC

The Study Commission on the Use of Student Assessments in New Jersey issued its final report on January 11, 2016. The commission's charge was to review and make recommendations to the Governor regarding the quality and effectiveness of student assessments administered to K–12 students in New Jersey. The report states, “The Study Commission recognizes that Statewide standardized assessments are an important part of a comprehensive school improvement initiative and are necessary to provide equity in education and accountability for results. Based on information available at this time, the Study Commission recommends that the State of New Jersey continue its membership and participation in the PARCC consortium and annually administer the PARCC instrument as its Statewide assessment.”
