Orange County History Day - Natural History Day

Each year NHD frames students’ research within a historical theme. The theme is chosen for its broad application to world, national or state history and its relevance to ancient history or to the more recent past. The theme for 2020 is Breaking Barriers in History. The theme provides a focused way to increase students’ historical understanding and an opportunity to develop perspective and understanding rather than merely being able to cite facts and figures. Through participation in this program, students in grades 4-12 become amateur historians on their journey to discover the significance of their chosen historical topic.

Online Subscription Package 2019-2020

Hello, Inspire Families!

Thank you for your remarkable patience while we worked through the implementation challenges with our Online Subscription Package (OSP) this year. We are truly sorry delay of several subscriptions as well as the frustrations those delays have caused you and your students.

The good news is that all of the subscriptions are working; hooray! For those who requested TutorMe, the subscription will be available on Monday, 9/16. We will send an email with login instructions (please be sure to check your spam folder).

Unfortunately, some of our families are still experiencing difficulties accessing their subscriptions or need a little assistance in understanding how Clever works.

We're here to help!

Although we are working diligently to answer the backlog of thousands of emails, a video explanation or demonstration is oftentimes far more helpful. Therefore, we are hosting office hours for both teachers and families to provide live support and help answer questions, concerns, troubleshoot, and much more!

Following is our office hour schedule for Monday, 9/16 - Thursday, 9/19

Monday, 9/16

Morning (Dedicated for Shmoop) - 10:00am - 11:30am

Afternoon - 2:30pm - 4:30pm - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Tuesday, 9/17

Afternoon - 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Evening (Dedicated for Shmoop) - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Wednesday, 9/18 Afternoon - 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Thursday, 9/19

Afternoon - 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Evening - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

For those who need more immediate information or answers, our OSP Handbook has the most up-to-date, detailed information for each subscription.

Again, we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. If you need help, we look forward to having you join us in our office hours!

Lakeshore's craft kit lets children create and customize balloon-powered cars—for a fun-filled introduction to early STEAM concepts! Ideal for integrating STEM with arts & crafts, the kit includes enough materials for kids to engineer 10 real-working cars. Children just use the precut pieces to build a car…customize it with their own craft materials…and put it into action! Then kids test and fine-tune their creation—until they have a car that races! You get 10 chipboard car bodies, 40 plastic wheels, 40 foam blocks, 30 straws, 20 axles, 12 balloons, 50 rubber bands and a guide. The car bodies measure 6" in length. Additional craft materials not included.

Available at Lakeshore Learning for $24.99

Children's Books That Build a Love of Math

"This page lists fun, clever books on math for kids. Math can be challenging, so when the usual explanations and strategies don't work, what's a teacher to do? Use math picture books! A funny and/or interesting story pulls the kids in, and then the different approach (vs. traditional math direct instruction) means even the frustrated kids are more receptive to learning math. Children who claim to not like math can find an engaging, 'friendly' entry into the subject via clever math picture books."
