Who was Josef Mengele?

Josef Mengele was a SS (SchutzStaffel) physician, infamous for his inhumane medical experimentation on the victims at the Concentration camps at Auschwitz during the Holocaust. His father was Karl Mengele who was a prosperous manufacturer of farming implements. As Mengele grew older he took interest in medicine. He then went to college to study and he earned his Ph.D in anthropology. Anthropology is the study of humans.

In 1935, Josef earned a Ph.D in physical anthropology. Anthropology is the study of humans. Then in 1937 Josef Mengele joined the Nazi party. But before that the same year he got his medical degree he joined the SS. As he was wounded in battle he came back to Germany in January, 1943. He then began to work for Kaiser Wilhelm Institute. Then later in 1943 he received news of his promotion to to the rank of SS captain. He then shortly after was transferred to Auschwitz on May 30, 1943. Several weeks in the camp he undertook the position as chief of camp.
