From the Principal's desk…
It is hard to believe how quickly this term is passing by.
Parent Helper Morning Tea
I has certainly been an action packed fortnight at HPS. This week our grade five and six students are having an amazing time at camp. We would not be able to run these programs and many others without our parent body who are always available to help. So thank you to the parents who are currently on camp – we also hope that you are having as good a time as the students.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the other parents who help us in so many different ways. We have parents who continually help out with the Tuesday breakfast club. This is an incredibly vital service to many of our students – so thank you!!! We have parents and grandparents who help with reading and small group work in many of our classrooms. Through this the teachers are able to do far more individualised teaching to reach all students. Again another vital way that parents help us. Where would we be without our parents that help out with PACH and the Uniform Shop. Also two incredibly vital areas involved in running a school. The success of our Colour Run was due to the input of these parents. Rebecca Krizay who runs our uniform shop and is always accommodating and helpful – thank you.
So…… on behalf of our teachers and students I would like to thank all of our helpers and ask them to attend our Parent Helpers Morning Tea at 11:00am on Tuesday 3rd December In the staffroom. I look forward to seeing you there and having the opportunity to thank you in person.
Transitions and Planning for 2020
This year we will be running two transition sessions with teachers for 2020. These will be in our final week of school on the Monday and Wednesday mornings. Students will go to their new classrooms and meet their teacher for 2020. We are hoping that our returning teachers will also be available to meet their students as well. Our grade six students will have their Orientation day at high school on Tuesday 10th December. This is also our final orientation session for our 2020 Preps. Teachers are currently looking at different combinations for class placement. Thank you to all of the parents who contacted me regarding next year, it was very helpful being able to consider those issues for class placement. We are hoping to be able to advise our school community of teacher placement and class structure for 2020 in the next newsletter. Unfortunately we were expecting the return of Tanya Dale but she has notified us this week that she will not be returning to HPS – so as you can understand our staffing is not quite complete for 2020.
Giving Tree
Next week we will be visiting two of our local nursing homes. Holmwood Aged Care and Monda Lodge. Thank you to all of the students, parents and teachers who have brought in gifts for us to spread the Christmas cheer. There are still some tags on the tree for anyone still wishing to donate. This is just another example of how the Healesville Primary Community help each other.

Our end of year reports will going out live on the Sentral Parent Portal on Monday 16th December. We will not be printing off hard copies, if you have had access issues with the portal please come in and see Louise in the school office, she is happy to help you out.

CAMP AUSTRALIA - BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CARE
Staying Sun Smart at Outside School Hours Care
At Outside School Hours Care we enjoy playing outside, whether it be sports, on the playground or even taking homework out into the fresh air. No matter which activity, when outside we always remember to stay sun smart.
Our Sun Smart policy complies with SunSmart Guidelines and ensures all children, educators and visitors are protected from over-exposure to UV radiation while maintaining adequate vitamin D levels. Sensible sun protection does not put people at risk of vitamin D deficiency.
Too much of the sun’s UV can cause sunburn, skin and eye damage and skin cancer. UV damage accumulated during childhood and adolescence is strongly associated with an increased risk of skin cancer in later life.
To assist with staying sun smart this summer, children are also advised to wear their hats whenever playing outdoors. Additional sun protection measures will be put in place if required.
To find out more about the Camp Australia OSHC program visit our website at www.campaustralia.com.au or call our friendly Customer Care Team on 1300 105 343. The team are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except National Public Holidays).
Have a wonderful day and don’t forget to stay sun smart!
