Graphic Design Students are exploring Adobe Illustrator more and more everyday. Each grade level are starting off with the same process being that this is a new class for all students. Each class are learning the tools of Illustrator and how to apply them, recalling them when needed to critically solve design issues and expanding their designing process. Through the month of February sixth grade will be developing CD covers, seventh grade will be developing their own book cover design of their favor book. Eighth grade will be developing "wanted" posters and political posters in group; learning margins, layout, complex designs, visual imagery, etc.
Please be sure that your scholar brings their sketchbook to class daily!
The Music Studio - Mr. Broadnax
February is an exciting month for choral students! This month we will be expanding our skills in sight reading through various note recognition and rhythm exercise activities. Students have been working hard to learn new music as the performance season rapidly approaches. Students will be engaging weekly “Sound Checks” which are assessments that measure student mastery of concepts as well as lyric remembrance. Students will also begin exploring performance etiquette and prepare for a Performance Analysis Project.
After school rehearsals are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for All County participants from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm. The after school schedule for other ensembles will be disseminated soon. Spring Concert forms will be disseminated soon. If you are interested in becoming a part of the Music/Choral booster please visit my school's website https://www.gcsnc.com/Page/13781
Computer Skills & Entrepreneurship
The Seventh Graders are currently working on their All About Me multi-media presentation, which will have to be orally presented to their class of peers. Each presentation will consist of 9 slides to be delivered between a 2:30-3:00 minute timing. Students will be scored using the FBLA speech competition rubric.
The Sixth Graders are eagerly increasing their understanding of the proper postures and techniques when using the Touch Typing method on a QWERTY keyboard. They have updated their goals for the 3rd quarter and is working hard to make them a reality. Students will use the Keyboard Challenge website to take an assessment. They must be able to put it back together within 6 minutes. Feel free to learn more about my class at https://www.gcsnc.com/Page/13812

Honorable Mention
Reading Impact/Guided Studies-Reading - Mrs. Holland
In Reading Impact/Guided Studies-Reading, our scholars are learning how to build arguments while discussing real-life issues in groups. Using informational text, students are learning how to give viewpoints on various topics and then listening to the opposite side of an argument to respond with reasoning. Students are also using a graphic organizer for each topic to write their reasons and evidences. After using the graphic organizer as a guide, the students will arrange their arguments into a final writing piece.
The following topics that we will discuss this month are:
Public Curfews for Teens, For or Against School Uniforms, For or Against Attending Year-round School, and Banning Junk foods from Public Schools.
Students are using this information to strengthen and develop vocabulary and reading comprehension strategies. They are citing textual evidence, analyzing text, defining the meaning of vocabulary the way it is in the text, using reasoning to support the inferences from the text, and identifying key ideas in the text. Students have been answering questions using reading processes/strategies to make inferences before answering questions in their Reading Impact/Guided Studies Notebooks.
Steps to Building an Argument should include:
· Title of the Argument
· Main Idea (Topic)
· State three Reasons
· State Three Evidences
· Counter Arguments
· Strong Finish
