Empower All People to be Healthy, Lifelong Learners
Kia kaha - do your best * Kia māia - be courageous * Kia manawanui - have a heart
Principal's Message
Kia ora koutou,
Thank you to you all for bringing your kids back to our kura so refreshed and revitalised.
We have had a great few days reconnecting with the kids and families.
This term our learning theme is SOMAD - School of Music, Arts & Dance. The learning teams are excited about teaching more of the arts to our students and this will culminate in our Celebration Concert to our community in December.
Thanks again for what you do as a parent and caregiver every day for your kids. We appreciate you.

The Cleanest Kids
It ended up being a very close run competition, but the winners of the Cleanest Classroom were... Kowhai 2 who earned themselves a Pizza Lunch!
Well done Kowhai 2 and all the classes who made such an effort to show Kia Manawanui and keep their classrooms clean.
Get Ready for Shakeout 2018
New Zealand ShakeOut, our national earthquake drill and tsunami hīkoi, is taking place on Thursday 18 October 2018.
ShakeOut is held across the world to remind people of the right action to take during an earthquake, Drop, Cover and Hold - and to practise a tsunami hīkoi (evacuation) if in a coastal area.
Puketapu School will be taking part in this drill. Do you know what you would do at home in the event of an earthquake?
Term 4 Touch
Wow! We have 12 teams playing touch this term! Huge thanks to all the coaches and parent helpers who make this possible.
Everyone looks amazing kitted out in their Puketapu uniforms!
We ask that everyone, players, coaches, supporters and sideline experts all remember and show our school values: Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui, on and off the field. Go Puketapu!

Muru Raupatu Marae Visit
Our School Charter outlines:
Tangata Whenuatanga: Staff at Puketapu School actively facilitate the participation of whānau and people with the knowledge of local context, tikanga, history and language to support classroom teaching and learning programmes.
It is important to us that our students and whanau have the opportunity to connect and experience the protocols and tikanga on a Marae.
To support this, we are delighted to share details of our whole school trip to Muru Raupatu Marae on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
Muru Raupatu is located near Bell Block settlement, opposite New Plymouth Airport.
Its principal hapū is Puketapu of the iwi Te Atiawa.
The wharenui is also called Muru Raupatu; it was built in 1937.
The marae connects ancestrally to the waka Tokomaru and the maunga Taranaki.
Because of the number of students, this visit will be over two days, in Learning Teams.
We will travel by bus to and from the marae. All students will need to bring their normal morning tea, lunch, water bottle and sun hat.
There is no cost for this event and we would love to see as many parents and whanau come along as possible.
Parents who come along and wish to take their own children home from the afternoon session are welcome to do so, but please make sure their teacher is aware before you leave.
