March News
What's happening at HGECC?
It's the Marvelous Month of March!
Hello High Grove Families!
It is so surprising that we are already in the month of March! Last week and the weather was so beautiful! We are hopeful that this means the end to frigid weather and the start to more sunny days.
This month we will be screening our community 3 and 4-year-olds. It is our hope that they become our future "Little Bulldogs". Screenings will be held on Wednesdays during the month of March except for the week of spring break (March 3, 10, 24, & 31st). These are by appointment only so please call 816-316-5522 to schedule a screening today.
Our culture day was a huge success, thank you for sending in your banners, treats to share, and some even wore clothing from their native culture.
Please remember that Spring Break is the week of March 15th - 19th. Our building will be closed during this time.
Are you curious about what your little person does all day while they are here? Check out your child's classroom website for pictures, resources, and updates on what is happening! We are always adding new information to our building page and teacher pages. Go to https://hgecc.grandviewc4.net, click on "about us", then go to "teachers and staff". Find your teacher's name and click on their website.
Remember-if you ever have any questions or ideas you would like to share, please give me a call!
Let's make this a marvelous month!

Reminder - Car Rider Process
Car Riders ~ Parent Pick-Up:
If you arrive late to school or need to pick your child up early please call 816-316-5500 and we will greet you in the car rider lane.
At arrival, cars will enter the back parking lot off of Winchester. At the northernmost entrance (this will be a one-way process). Please stay within the cones for the car rider line at all times. We will no longer move cones so that cars can exit the car rider line. Students will enter/exit the cafeteria doors. Every parent or person picking up will need a car rider car tag or a photo ID. Please do not drop off at the front doors. If at all possible please have your child sit on the passenger side of your vehicle. This will help us to keep your child safe and exit the vehicle on the sidewalk. Please know that you will be responsible for the buckling and unbuckling of the seatbelt or child car seat. Please remain in your car until the staff member has prompted you to assist your child.
At dismissal, cars will enter the back parking lot off of Winchester. Please do not try to pick your child(ren) up at the front doors. We will help your child to your vehicle (please have your child sit on the passenger side of your vehicle when possible). We will then step aside so that you can exit the vehicle and buckle the seatbelt or child car seat. For the safety of our children and staff, please remain in the car rider line until the stop sign has been turned to SLOW. Children will not be loaded into a car until they are one of the front three cars. We will allow those cars to leave and move off and then we will load the next three cars. EHS families will be expected to wait in the line as well until they are one of those front cars.
We will have a sign-in clipboard for those families without a car tag and for those who are late arrivals or early dismissals. You will need a photo ID if you do not have a car rider tag.
Events Coming up:
March 3, 10, 24, & 31: EC screenings
March 25: Fire Drills, Bus Evacuation Drills
March 15-19: No School-Spring Break
Conscious Discipline Focus at Home:
The Story Hand
A Story Hand is a gentle hand massage accompanied by a personalized social story that helps a child deal with stress or anxiety. The story you tell will reflect a specific, personalized experience or concern for the child. This graphic summarizes how to conduct a Story Hand. Slow down, be present, connect and enjoy this profoundly helpful activity with a child who is having a tough time.

You can bring your child for playgroups, story times, and check out fun toys to take home with you--just like checking books out from the library!
We are open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
