Eagle's Nest
The official e-newsletter of Corona Elementary
April 2, 2021
Traditionally, April brings us spring, warmer longer days, and a peek at the end of the traditional school year. There is no doubt that this school year has been anything but traditional. This April will bring to fruition our efforts to safely re-open our school to our eagles under the In Person Learning format under the district’s Hybrid model. As you may have heard, we will have three cohorts of students (A, B, and C). All the students whose parents want them to remain as online learners for the reminder of the school year will be identified as part of the C Cohort. They will continue logging into Zoom with their assigned teacher to receive instruction and continue to complete their independent work via Google Classroom. Students in TK -6th whose parents have chosen to participate in our In Person format will be split by the alphabetical order of their last name. Last names A-L will be identified as “A” Cohort and will come to school Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am-10:30am. Last names M-Z will be identified as “B” Cohort and will come to school Thursday and Fridays from 8am-10:30am. Preschoolers will follow a similar structure, but will have a distinct schedule that our teachers will identify shortly. Cohort’s “A” and “B” will also continue to have a schedule to complete their independent work assigned through Google Classroom. We have been communicating the many safety protocols we will have in place to keep our students and staff safe. There will be so much more on this topic and more, so stay connected to Class Dojo, our school’s website and the district’s website. And don’t forget our Chat’s with the Principal! Our next one is April 7 at 3pm!! Hope to see you then and on our first day of In Person Learning.

Eagle Eye On...
Mr. Harvey Marrufo
Custodian
My name is Harvey Marrufo, I've been a native to the Inland Empire area all my life. Lived in La Verne during my elementary and middle school years. Moved to Ontario the summer before starting my freshman year at Chaffey High School. Attended Mt. San Antonio Community College in Walnut CA. completing my general subjects. Then attended Art Center College in Pasadena for my undergraduate degree in art: animation. Have been artistic since the age of 7 in 2nd grade. I love to create art in different medias. I've sold several of my projects throughout the years and still every so often. It's a really neat feeling knowing people like your art.
During my years in school, I self-taught to play bass guitar with friends and played with two bands. Best part was when we played at the Whiskey a Go Go in West Hollywood. One of my best experiences I've had. Music is definitely a huge part of who I am. I still collect vinyl and own four record players.
I love my family and close friends. I have three amazing kiddos I love dearly. One young female adult who attended CUNY. Her major is in museum studies. Her interest is being a museum curator. Have two little boys who are my top priority. Oldest is 8 and my youngest is 4 and will be 5 soon and starting kindergarten next school year. Their education and well being has my most important consideration. I am a proud parent of my three smart, independent individuals.
My current passion I've focused for my personal enjoyment has been taking long hikes and riding my mountain bike. I've increased my outings since our stay at home situation this past year. I can get lost for hours hiking at the Mammoth mountain trails, Big Sur sites, San Gabriel mountains, Los Angeles national forests north of Pasadena and our local trails in Claremont. Like to stay active and healthy in reality to keep up with my boys.
Before I worked for OMSD and Corona Elementary, I originally volunteered by helping a long time friend at the kindergarten classes in Berlyn Elementary, about 16 years ago. A few years after, she persuaded me to apply for open positions. Have worked for OMSD now for nine years as custodial staff at Corona Elementary school. Corona staff has been great, enjoyed getting to know everyone well. Have seen good people retire or move on. It's been satisfying keeping Corona safe and clean for all students and staff.
Would like to encourage every student from all grade levels to learn as much as you can. You can apply everything you learn to anything you may personally want to do in your life. Reading is knowledge, do not allow obstacles to keep you from achieving your potential. Parents can be encouraging and engaging with their child's education. It's been a difficult past year with this horrible virus but it can only get better by participating all current guidelines. Together we can overcome!
