South Ridge Elementary
Home of the Roadrunners
We have been in school ONE HUNDRED DAYS!
What a memorable day for our students!
Parent Pick Up Reminder
For students that are in K or 1, please use the parent pick up lanes. Kindergarten is the lane closest to the sidewalk. Refrain from parking and getting out of your vehicle. We have had many parents signaling students from the west side of the parking lot sidewalk area. This is a safety issue. We do not have crosswalk coverage on that side of the lot, there is moving traffic, and we cannot keep a visual on students to ensure they are being picked up by the appropriate adult. We also have students walking to the buses from Building B along this sidewalk and need to keep the sidewalk clear for them.
We have also had issues with parking in the ditch along the side of 199th. This is causing damage to the school property, is becoming a traffic hazard, and with our wet weather has caused vehicles to get stuck in the mud. We are not able to assist in removing any vehicle that gets stuck in the ditch.
Thank you for helping to keep South Ridge a safe campus for our students.
Counselor's Corner
Every February we celebrate the history of African Americans as part of Black History Month. It is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their role in the history of the USA.
During the Black History Month we continue the discussion of Black people and their contributions through the study of achievements by African Americans.
Our counselors put together Google Slides highlighting 30 prominent African Americans. Each slide contains a read aloud, famous quote and a brief video bio. This resource was shared with teachers to support classroom discussions, and can easily be extended into conversations in the home.

Math Play Every Day
How many do you see? How do you see it?
Mathematicians look for shortcuts. Use these real world images to encourage your student to think about different ways to count up a number of items without having to count one by one. Number Talk Images is a website that has worked to curate images that invite children to count, for fun!
While investigating these images, ask:
What did you count?
How many do you see?
How do you see it?
What is another way to count the objects?
