WBMS Friday Notes

Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
Once again, this was a wonderful week at The Webb. Kindness Week was lovely; our Jr. BETA students made 300 hundred of sandwiches for those with food insecurity, one of our Character Council members were featured on Star 94, and I visited many outstanding classes. Lastly, all areas of College and Career Ready Performance (CCRPI) have been reported from the Georgia Department of Education, and WBMS is once again the number one public middle school in Georgia! Our community works hard together to prioritize our students’ learning and growth, and it has paid off again. Thank you for partnering with us.
During this season of gratitude, I want to express how thankful I am for ALL you do to support WBMS! As I count my blessings on Thanksgiving day, I will clearly state how grateful I am to be part of such an remarkable community! When we need volunteers – no matter the job – shelving books, supervising recess, creating bulletin boards, popping popcorn - you appear with smiles on your faces. When we ask for food (for labs or to celebrate), you send in loaded bags. When we want to decorate for any occasion, you climb the walls hanging streamers from the ceilings. And when we want to help others in our community who need our support, you rally and send in cans, gift cards, coats, and school supplies. I could go on and on. THANK YOU!
Take time to watch/read some local news features on our school:

Book Fair is coming!
Crane Book Fair is coming to Webb Bridge from November 30 through December 9 with TEN display carts of books for sale! Students will visit the book fair with their ELA classes on this schedule and may also shop on a pass from any teacher. (All book fairs are required to charge sales tax this year so please plan for this with your child.)
Crane also offers online purchases (including books for younger children) with no shipping charge if you order by December 9 and have the items delivered directly to the school. Want that purchase to be a holiday gift? Email Nan Brown at brownnt@fultonschools.org and we will hold for your pickup rather than deliver to your child’s homeroom teacher!
Family Evening will be on Wednesday, December 7, with the book fair relocated for shopping in the cafeteria rotunda. We have chess club, musical auditions, and the band concert after school that day! Volunteer to help with the book fair on this SignUp Genius.
Device Information
To ensure device security, students should secure their devices over the Thanksgiving break. Devices should not be left out in open spaces in schools or in view from windows or doors with windows.
- Middle and high school students should secure their device in their locker or take it home.
Should staff or students need technical support over the Thanksgiving break, the Service Desk will be open for calls from 8:00-4:00 Monday, November 21st – Wednesday, November 23rd.
FCS Fall Break Family Activities
In preparation for Computer Science Week, Instructional Technology has also developed some activities that families can engage in during the Thanksgiving Holiday Break. Parents can engage learners during the Fall break with Adobe digital learning challenges to sharpen digital literacy, creativity, and critical thinking skills. 8th Grade Service-Learning Initiative
As part of our Service-Learning initiative this year, our 8th graders will discover, share, act, and reflect over three areas of need through the lens of Georgia: food, shelter, and water. Our 8th grade Character Council is working to develop information and service opportunities to share with their peers through sways.
Our first area of need is food. Students have been exploring this sway: https://sway.office.com/LUnTTCgyQdrDw8dZ?ref=Link in Compass this month to learn more about how we can help those that are facing food insecurity in Georgia. The week of December 5th, our 8th graders will partner with the Sandwich Project (a local organization) to make and donate sandwiches for the food insecure and we need your help to make it happen!
If you are willing to donate items for this project, please click the link below to sign up; items should be sent in to school starting Monday, December 5th. We’d like items to be as fresh as possible!
Donations for Sandwich Project
We will collect supplies 12/1-12/7. Please drop them off
If you would like to learn more about the sandwich project, visit their website at: https://www.thesandwichproject.org/

Who: Wellness and Leadership Professionals/Speakers will be facilitating the workshops and presentations (e.g., licensed therapists, academic coaches, Executive Professionals, professional speakers, artists, teachers and high school student mentors).
Goal: To educate and empower students to manage the unique stressors in society and everyday life, along with teaching concrete skills to improve leadership abilities and support each other.
Why: Students face high expectations and pressures today, especially in academic studies and social networks, which can lead to increased anxiety, loneliness, depression, and a disconnection in social and communication skills.

Our school was recently named a 2021-2023 National PTA School of Excellence!
To earn this designation WBMS had to demonstrate families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and that our PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. Becoming a National PTA School of Excellence began with the joint commitment of PTA and our phenomenal administrative team to work together to welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power and collaborate with the community. Congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
To learn more about this accomplishment or to support our PTA during the Fall Membership Drive, visit wbmspta.org.
Do you know a family in need at WBMS?

Important Message from FCS
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the upcoming holidays, it important to remind parents and families that candy, desserts, baked goods (store bought/homemade), or any other edible items are not to be sold or distributed at school or on the bus unless approved in advance by school administration. Per our Student Code of Conduct, students who do not adhere to this expectation are subject to disciplinary action for violation 7A: Failure to Follow Rules and all candy or food items will be confiscated. Please discuss this expectation and possible consequences with your student(s) as this will be taken very seriously. This is due to recent national and state reports about students sharing edible items and synthetic medications with other students that contain very harmful substances.
Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!

Missing an Email from WBMS?
Parents –
Please check your spam/clutter/junk mail for emails from our teachers and staff. We are hearing from many parents that the communication from WBMS is not making it into the main inboxes of our parents.
Thank you!

Parking at WBMS
Please do not park in Staff Parking spots, even if they are open. Staff parking is not for carpool pickup or drop-off.
WBMS Carpool Information
PULL ALL THE WAY UP TO THE BLUE SIGN
Our carpool line gets VERY long but if everyone follows the carpool pattern, it will move quickly!
- There are two "lanes" the pick-up and the exit lane.
- We've extended the carpool lane -Please pull all the way up to the end of the traffic circle to the BLUE SIGN (see image below).
- It's a "Load and Go" method- once your student is in the car, please carefully merge into the exit lane (yellow arrows- see image below)
**Basic rule---DRIVE THROUGH THE PARKING LOT!
Please, please, please don't be the person who is impatient, skips the parking lot, and drives straight to the circle. You will make a lot of parents mad and its not safe.
No carpool numbers this year.
Yes, there are 2 lines in the circle! 1 is for cars that have already picked up, and 1 is for waiting cars. This goes against what many of us are used to (yes, it is ok to pull out into the left lane after you picked up your child and pass waiting cars in the circle ). If we don't have the system, our line would back up further onto Webb Bridge Rd.
That being said, the left lane in the circle is NOT for student pickup. Super dangerous!
Overall, follow the pattern and the line will move smoothly.
Be aware that the carpool lane starts to fill up very early (around 3:30/3:40) so if you are doing an early checkout the visitor spots are very hard to get in and out of.
Drop Off Times
Morning: Students cannot enter the building before 8:25*
*Unless they are here for a help session/club meeting. Teachers will post their start times on the help session board outside the front office. Once it's time, they will be allowed in the building. If they are not here for a help session/club meeting, students will need to wait outside.
Afternoon: Carpool and walkers are released after the 4:03 Afternoon Announcements.
