3. Can you name our behavior expectations? Can your students?
- Substitutes - We have not been able to find substitutes to fill every absence. Many of our paraprofessionals have been subs when Subteach cannot fill a spot. I know this leaves students without interventions but there is not much we can do. Please be patient with your interventionists. Some of our subs have been doing double duty - Ms. Pledge has been awesome - One day she had music and computer at the same time.
- Substitutes - You MUST have an updated sub tub. Recently it has been an issue that subs have had nothing to do with their students or haven't been able to find the sub tub. Your sub tub must have copied work if you are leaving worksheets (subs do not have access to the copier and the secretaries cannot make the copies and do their own work at the same time). The sub tub must also include an updated roster and transportation list. The sub must know how the students get home in the afternoon.
- Students missing buses: If one of your students misses the bus, you must stay with them until someone comes to get them (even if that is after 3:30). Please be vigilant and make sure your students are getting on the bus in the afternoon.
Rude vs Mean vs Bullying Behaviors
The author makes the point that we need to know the difference. "It is important to distinguish between rude, mean, and bullying so that teachers, school administrators, police, youth workers, parents, and kids all know what to pay attention to and when to intervene. As we have heard too often in the news, a child’s life may depend on a non-jaded adult’s ability to discern between rudeness at the bus stop and life-altering bullying."
Want to help your students understand the difference? Check out the activity at Whitson's website that has scenarios that will help you lead a discussion with your students on the difference.

Picture Book Recommendation of the Week
Everyone by Christopher Silas Neal
Everyone cries, everyone laughs, everyone sings—everyone. A celebrated illustrator explores the universality of feelings in his authorial debut.
Christopher Silas Neal, praised by the New York Times for his "stunning retro-style illustrations," invites young readers to explore how we feel what we feel, and how everyone else feels it, too. From the animals in the woods to the neighbors in their homes nearby, everyone has feelings and shares them in this whimsical story. Vivid, childlike art in a limited palette conveys a full spectrum of emotion. Young children easily frustrated by a popped balloon or overjoyed by a sky full of stars will relish this simple exploration of empathy.
Motivational Quote of the Week
It is one of life’s greatest joys to wake up in the morning…
every morning,
With a clear sense of why that day matters,
why every day matters.
This is what it means to find your WHY.
This is the start of an inspiring journey…
your inspiring journey.
Inspire on,
What the Principal is Reading
Blue Moon Rising by Simon Green
Rupert didn't especially want to be a prince. And he certainly never asked to be the second son of a royal line that really didn't need a spare. So he was sent out to slay a dragon and prove himself-a quest straight out of legend. But he also discovered the kinds of things legends tend to leave out, as well as the usual demons, goblins, the dreaded Night Witch-and even worse terrors hidden in the shadows of Darkwood. Rupert did find a fiery dragon-and a beautiful princess to rescue. But the dragon turned out to be a better friend than anyone back at the castle, and with the evil of Darkwood spreading, Rupert was going to need all the friends he could get.
