"Where it's always a good day to be a Bison!"

Dear Second Creek families,

Fall is definitely in the air! The trees are beautiful and the mornings and evenings are cooler. It really is such a glorious time to enjoy Colorado!

This week we will be holding parent-teacher connections (conferences) on Wednesday and Thursday until 7:30pm. We hope your time is great - connecting with classroom teachers, stopping by the book fair and sharing in the excitement of your student(s)' growth. We will also have Chromebooks set up in the hallway so that you can take this year's Fall Parent Survey. You will be giving us input and participating in a friendly competition for free lunch for teachers (see flyer below the movie clips).

We hope you enjoy the movies. They really show the fun and learning happening inside Second Creek every week.

Hope yo see you and your family this week!

Thank you for sharing your children with us!

Your Vote Counts 2022! The Ballots are Coming! Check Your Mailboxes This Week!

We are writing again to encourage all of you to vote in this fall’s mid-term election!

Ballots will be mailed this week to registered voters! Monday, October 17th is also the date that 24-Hour Drop Box Locations open as well. You can find the Drop Box location nearest to you at this link - https://www.adamsvotes.com/ballot-drop-boxes/.

A reminder again to check your voter registration to be sure that your voter registration is current, or if you are new to Colorado, register to vote. Colorado is a mail in ballot state and your address must be correct for you to receive your ballot in the mail.

You can check your voter registration information and/or register to vote at http://www.govotecolorado.com/.

27J Schools has a mill levy override question (5B) on the ballot. We encourage you to read your sample ballot available to you on this website, do your research on the issues and candidates, and vote!

As you know, 27J Schools had a bond and a mill levy override question on the ballot last November. The bond was successful. The mill levy override was not.

Of the 75,213 registered voters in 27J Schools boundaries, only 26,242 or 34.89% voted in last November’s election. See the election summary here.

The Go Vote Colorado website is very user friendly. Updating your voter information or registering to vote takes just minutes. All you need to register to vote is your Social Security Number or your Colorado Driver’s License.

Parent-Teacher Connections - October 18th-21th

Whether you have already connected with your classroom teacher or your conference is coming up, I hope your time was wonderful. The bulk of conferences are coming up this week, as we reserved Wednesday and Thursday for evening conferences in the building. If you have not scheduled a time with your teacher yet, there is still time! Contact your teacher or call the office so we can find a time for you.

Scholastic Book Fair

All this week we will be holding the Book Fair in our library. Ms. Paula and volunteers have done a beautiful job putting everything together for you! If you already had your conference, you can stop by after school.

Scholastic Book fair hours: Tuesday and Friday 8am -4:30 then Wednesday and Thursday 8-7:30pm

Halloween Parties and all school parade - Information

Please pre-register for Halloween parties. Come to the office anytime (conferences is a great opportunity to do this) and let us print out a badge for you (bring your ID). We will hold on to your badge until you come for the party on October 28th. Here is the schedule for the Parade and Party:

2:30pm - Parade around the outside of the school. Please come and line up outside on the sidewalk and cheer your goblin on!

2:45ish - Parade is over, and parents are allowed to join classroom parties. PLEASE STOP BY

THE TABLES OUTSIDE AND GRAB YOUR PRE PRINTED BADGE. If you did not pre register, you will have to do so in the office before entering the classrooms. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO PRE-CHECK BEFORE THE PARTIES!

The map below gives you an idea of where grade levels will start the parade. We will do one full walk around the building (starting with 5th grade and ending with Kindergarten) and then go inside for parties.

Of course - this is weather permitting. If the weather is bad, we will send out a dialer with new instructions.

Attendance

We continue to ask that all families make their best effort to have kids to school on time, and every day. One thing we noticed is that many families take their students out early on Friday. It might not feel like much, but the times your student is missing the learning adds up. I left the chart below here one more time so you can see the affects of missing minutes every week... over the long haul of your child's educational journey. We are a 4-day school week, and every minute matter!

Traffic Reminders

If you are a returning family to Second Creek, you know our parking lot is small and needs special care during morning drop off and afternoon pick up. Thank you for contributing to the overall safety of our staff and students!

If you are a new family to Second Creek, please read the information below carefully. Staff (and sometimes Commerce City police) are out during morning drop off and afternoon dismissal to make sure everyone is safe.

Parents, it is very important that we do not park on the bus lane before or after school. Blocking the bus causes delays that go beyond our school.

Here are a few reminders about our drop off and pick up procedures. You know that Commerce City police pops in once in a while and issue tickets to vehicles that are not following our safety rules... so please make sure you are doing what you can do keep our students and staff safe!

  • No parked cars in the "no parking zone" - which is by the sidewalk from the beginning of the parking lot all the way to the front doors. This is a fire lane and also a bus lane. There is NO PARKING anytime. Only drop off or pick up. We have noticed many cars parked waiting for the school to open in the morning, blocking the bus and causing lines of cars that go all the way outside the parking lot. Please drop off your student and go - no parking.
  • Same rules apply for pick up after school.
  • Students can be dropped off at 7:30am for breakfast eaters and 7:35am for non breakfast eaters. We do not have supervision for students who are dropped off before these times.
  • Students must be picked up at 3:30pm every day. We do not have staff to supervise students after school.
  • Let us know if you need information about our before and after-school program.
  • Please only use the handicap parking if you have a handicap license.
  • The Staff of the Month parking is for staff only at all times.
  • PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF DRIVEWAYS!

We appreciate your cooperation!
