John Reed Weekly News!
September 4, 2022
Principal's Message
Our 5th graders will be attending Outdoor Education this year, and going forward we look forward to offering this opportunity to all our 5th graders. Please attend our Dine and Donate at Sally Tomato's this Wednesday from 4 - 8pm!!
John Reed has 4 main expectations of our students: Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Ready to Learn. Our school must be a safe place for all students - please have conversations with your children about appropriate language and to never use racist language at our school. Any hate-speech language will not be tolerated at John Reed. Our school must be safe for all students. It is important that you talk to your children about this issue, as we will be addressing it school-wide. I am so proud of our upstanding students - it's important that students come forward and let an adult know what they have heard or experienced. I look forward to our partnership as we work together to prepare your children for their future as respectful, kind and responsible young adults.
Reminder - check out our Lost and Found! Please remember to label your child's belongings.

Exciting Opportunity from the Petaluma Health Center’s (PHC) Dental Department:
Exciting Opportunity from the Petaluma Health Center’s (PHC) Dental Department:
In an effort to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed in school and be free of dental pain, CRPUSD has partnered with the PHC’s Dental Department to provide free or reduced cost dental care to its students. PHC will work with families directly to enroll students in free or reduced cost dental coverage.
Dentists will be providing dental check-ups, cleanings, sealants and other necessary treatment to students while in summer school. Masks will be required for all patients. PHC will provide them if needed.
In order to provide dental services to your child, you must complete the attached consent form. We will not be able to see your child if these forms are not filled out completely. Dental care reports will be sent home after every visit, for every child we see, so you are still involved every step of the way.

Safety When Dropping Off/ Picking Up
Safety:
Your children's safety is our biggest priority! We really want to make sure everyone is able to get to and from school safely. Please be calm and kind when speaking to our staff. Please only park in the handicap parking spots if you have a placard. If you plan on getting out of your car, please park and do so. Please do not park in the parking loop. Most of our families are so mindful and safe, but there have been some concerning behaviors.
Please do not call your children into the car or honk your horn, ouch! It hurts our ears. Children should get into cars / out of cars towards the end of the loop - otherwise it backs up traffic.
Do not park in the parking loop, only on the street or in the parking lot.
Mornings at John Reed
Morning Walkabouts start at 8:05 - students are to walk in a clockwise rotation until the first bell rings (8:17) - then they will line up in front of their classrooms. Everyone is encouraged to walk - parents and children, as well as Kindergarten students. It's a good way to get ready for the day!
