Connect2Texas - Virtual Content Enrichment Programs

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art offers a variety of interdisciplinary, interactive distance learning programs that bring the museum to your classroom virtually. Focusing on the collection, a museum educator engages teacher and student audiences in discussions and activities exploring art, culture, history, language arts, science, and more. These curriculum-based programs align with state and national standards. Programs offered may be modified according to grade level and curricular specifications. Special program requests are reviewed with three weeks’ notice. Programs last up to one hour, and serve up to thirty students at a time.

An Array of Inspiration: Celebrating Pan-Asian Artists

Grades: 4-8

Join us as we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We will explore different Pan-Asian artists from our collection to learn more of their processes and inspiration.

Artist Stories of Immigration

Grades: 4-8

Explore works of art by artists from all over the globe that called the US their home through crossing borders. Learn about immigration through the unique stories of Carter artists and how their multiple identities to their origin, culture, and new country influenced and inspired their art.

Beasts, Birds, and Bugs: The Art of Scientific Observation

Grades: 2-5

Investigate ways artists have used scientific observation to represent the world around them. Through close looking, data collection, and hypothesizing, students will describe, identify, and classify creatures and their habitats depicted by various artists.

Engineering Art (RECORDING)

Grades: 5-8

Engineering makes beautiful objects and artists have taken notice. In this program we examine artworks in the Carter's collection and explore how artists take inspiration from engineered structures and apply those concepts in their own creations.

Full STEAM Ahead In Art Exploration

Grades: 2-5

Examine artworks, and explore how artists incorporate science, technology, engineering and mathematic concepts and processes into their practice and precision.

Little Learners Storytime: Jayden's Impossible Garden

Grades: PreK-2

Can a garden thrive in the city? Let's find out. Students will explore, along with our young protagonist, how a garden can be made in many unexpected places. This is a story of a blossoming friendship and the timeless lesson of finding beauty in unexpected places. Students will engage with works of art from the Carter's collection. They will draw connections between the works of art and the book.

Little Learners Storytime: Larry Gets Lost in Texas

Grades: PreK-2

Celebrate our great state of Texas with this story of adventure and friendship. Larry and his best human friend Pete become separated on a family trip. Will they see each other again? Follow the search across the wide-open spaces of the Lone Star state. Students will explore works of arts from the Carter collection.

Little Learners Storytime: Maybe Something Beautiful

Grades: PreK-2

Available in English or Spanish.

Take a virtual trip to the museum where students will be read "Maybe Something Beautiful" by F. Isabel Campoy. This story introduces us to Mia a young artist who brings joy to people in her city with her art. Mia takes on a journey around her city to teach us that a splash of color can bring big changes in the most unexpected places. Students will connect the story to works of art from the Amon Carter Museum of American Art's collection. *Story is available in Spanish by request.

Little Learners Storytime: Rabbit's Snow Dance

Grades: PreK-2

It's the middle of Summer and Rabbit is tired of waiting for the snow he loves. He soon remembers he knows a special dance that can bring snow. However, Rabbit doesn't realize that there is a reason for every season. Join us and learn about an Iroquois folktale about the importance of patience, the seasons, and friendships. We will explore these themes while making connections to the Carter's art collection.

Little Learners Storytime: The Day You Begin

Grades: PreK-3

Have you ever felt like you're different and it didn't feel so good? There could be many reasons why we feel this way. "The Day You Begin" by Jacqueline Woodson reminds us that we can be brave and share our stories to realize we are not so different after all. Being uniquely you can also be a beautiful gift.

Little Learners Storytime: What Do You Do With An Idea?

Grades: Prek-2

What do we do with ideas? Let's take a reading journey and find out as we explore the many possibilities. Let's motivate little learners where their ideas can take them. Students will be read "What Do You Do With An Idea?" by Kobi Yamada and make connections to works of art in the Carter collection. Everything around you was once an idea including art. Where will your ideas take you?

Little Learners Storytime: Here We Are, Notes for Living on Planet Earth

Grades: Prek-2

Take a virtual trip to the museum where students explore what makes up our planet and how to live on it. Students will be read the wonderful story "Here We Are, Notes for Living on Planet Earth," and take a journey through the land, sky, and people on Earth. They will also have an opportunity to make connections from the story and works of art from the Amon Carter Museum of American Art's collection.

Little Learners Storytime: My Friends by Tao Gomi

Grades: Prek-2

Take a trip to the museum where students will hear a rhythmic text of the tale of a little girl that learns the value of friendship. Students will share a story with museum educators and connect the story to works of art from the Amon Carter Museum of American Art's collection.

Little Learners Storytime: Snowflake Bentley

Grades: Prek-2

Join us at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art for this January ONLY story time adventure. Take our virtual experience of learning about Wilson Alwyn Bentley or "Snowflake Bentley," whose love of snow and determination made contributions to art, but also to understanding snowflakes firsthand. Our little learners will learn about water crystal formations, snowflake facts, and the reward of perseverance all through the Carters collection.

Making Her Mark

Grades: 3-6

Explore works by women artists in the Carter’s collection who have demonstrated courageous talent despite adversity and made their mark in the art world.

Music and Movement with Art

Grades: Prek-2

Take a musical journey with works of art from the Carter's collection. Recognize and understand the influence of art on music, as well as music on art. Learn about how music relates to different American cultures and communities.

Planet Earth: An Artistic View

Grades: 3-6

Tour the planet through our collection. The student will recognize and understand the significance of art as a medium to influence conservation movements and contributions to the environment. They will engage with works of arts to better understand that artists are taking different roles outside of art, at times as scholars, scientist, historians, and influencers while highlighting the world's beauty.

Portraits @ the Carter (RECORDING)

Grades: 1-3

Students will view and explore several examples of American portraiture and, alongside museum educators, discuss how portraits might allow subjects, artists, and viewers to communicate important information about individuals and their identities.

Spooktacular Little Learners Storytime: Creepy Crayon!

Grades: Prek-1

For this month of October join us for this funny and creepy tale of Jasper Rabbit. Jasper struggles with his schoolwork because there's just too many other fun things to do. Soon he finds a special crayon that's purple, it's pointy, its perfect. Or is it? Students will make connections to the story and works of arts from the Carter collection.

Storytime: Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson's Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions

Grades: K-3

Author Chris Barton brings the story of innovative engineer Lonnie Johnson. Learners will learn about this notable story of African American inventor who, as a child, had already made a rocket and a robot as a teen and went on to work for NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. It is a story of persistence and triumph. Works of art will also engage learners by Carter artists.

Talkin' Texas Art - Sedrick Huckaby (RECORDING)

Grades: 4-8

Journey around Texas with the Carter’s collection and take a deeper dive into the complex history of the land, its inhabitants, and Texans’ artistic creations.


In this module, explore the artist's own Fort Worth community and analyze how this portrait serves as a community portrait while also addressing broader issues of representation.

Talkin' Texas Art - Gentlings (RECORDING)

Grades: 4-8

Journey around Texas with the Carter’s collection and take a deeper dive into the complex history of the land, its inhabitants, and Texans’ artistic creations.


In this module, learn about the golden-cheeked warbler, a bird that has made Texas its home during the warmer seasons.

The Eerie and Unusual (RECORDING)

Grades: 5-12

Creep into the Library and Archives at the Amon Carter to view illustrated texts, including Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein and works by Edgar Allan Poe. Uncover chilling nineteenth-century cultural norms while lurking though spirit photographs, “sleeping beauties,” and eerie artifacts while hearing stories from Amon Carter archivist and historian Jon Frembling.

Verses, Stanzas, and Art

Grades: 2-4

Poetry for Elementary age learners. Come share a laugh, use your imagination, and identify figurative language while examining the connections between diverse poems and works of art at the Carter.


As a bonus, students can flex their creative writing muscles in a post-program activity led by Carter Community Artist Brenda Ciardiello.

Visions of Black Artists

Grades: 4-8

In honor of Black History Month, we kick off and explore year-round the Carter’s collection to learn about Black artists visions and contributions to art from their perspective. Experience the work of artists using a variety of media across time periods and geography.

Voces Latinas in the Carter Collection

Grades: 5-8

Learn about the life and art of Latino artists in the Carter's collection whether you are celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month or learning about Latino culture any time of the year. Navigate through Latin America and across time as we explore the rich cultural influences in these artists’ work.

Who Paints Your Story? Native American Depictions in Art

Grades: 4-8

Analyze how artists have depicted Native Americans throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and the response by Native American artists. We examine paintings, photographs, and works on paper to explore various perspectives. Discussion will include identification of icons, stereotypes, representation, and more.

Wintry Wonderland (SEASONAL)

Grades: 1-4

Learn the intricacies of individual snowflakes as we view and discuss works of arts featuring wintery wonderlands in the Carter's collection. Discover how artists have depicted the beauty and wonder of snow and ice.
