Big picture

Good afternoon SLMS families,

Friday, January 14 marks the official end of the second quarter and first semester of the 2021-22 school year. I wanted to share with you information regarding quarter two and semester one grades. In addition, how your child will have access to their quarter three/semester two schedules.

Quarter two and semester one grades are reflective of cumulative performance on class homework, tests, quizzes, and class projects. While there is no grade category for effort, we do know that a student's final grade is often directly related to their effort and focus related to work completion. A reminder that, at the middle school level, quarter grades are averaged together to determine a student’s overall semester grade. Second-quarter grade cards will be shared electronically with all families in the afternoon of Friday, January 21.

Additionally, I want to give you a heads up about citizenship marks. Each teacher will provide citizenship feedback to parents on the quarterly report card. Citizenship marks reflect a student’s participation and classroom behaviors throughout the grading period. The citizenship grades are as follows:

S= Satisfactory
  • Consistently meets individual classroom expectations and/or participates in class and completes work on time

N= Needs Improvement

  • Inconsistency with meeting classroom expectations and/or limited participation with late or missing assignments

U= Unsatisfactory

  • Little to no student participation and/or consistently not meeting individual classroom expectations

Accessing Second Semester Schedules in Powerschool

To access your students' third quarter/second-semester schedule, please log on to your PowerSchool Dashboard. Schedules will be available there. Additionally, all students will receive a paper copy when they return to school on Wednesday, January 19.

Thank you for your continued support of SLMS and your middle school student.

Respectfully,

Dr. David Mitchell

Principal, SLMS

Falcon SMART Updates and Calendar Changes

Congratulations to the following students who will serve as your Summit Lakes Middle School Falcon SMART officers for the next two semesters:

President: Isabel O'Kane

Vice President: Carleigh Fletcher

Treasurer: Caroline Graber

Secretary: Lydia Hamlin

We know they will serve you well!

Due to unforeseen circumstances, there have been a few changes made to the Falcon SMART Club's Calendar of Events. Those changes can be found in RED in the link below. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but ask that you please adjust your calendar accordingly.

Interested in singing in a choir?! The best way to spread lots of cheer is singing loud for all to hear!

If you are a current 7th Grader who would like to audition to sing in the 8th-grade select choir for next school year, please see Mrs. Dahn in room 310 (Vocal Music) or email holly.dahn@lsr7.net to get more information! Auditions for students currently enrolled in Mrs. Dahn’s music classes will audition during class. Students not currently enrolled in vocal music will be asked to audition during SOAR time by appointment the first 2 weeks of January.

If you are a current 8th Grader not already enrolled in vocal music who would like to take choir at LSWHS your 9th grade school year, please see Mrs. Dahn in room 310 (Vocal Music) or email holly.dahn@lsr7.net for more information by January 14th (the last day of 1st semester).

Project Success

Project Success is a before and after-school program open for all students to help them reach their full potential. It will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-8:15 am or 3:20-4:30 pm. Both in-person and R7OL students may attend.

This is a great opportunity for students who need to get caught up on work, were recently quarantined, need help with a specific subject, organization, math support (AM sessions), or a consistent, quiet place to work on school assignments.

Space is limited, please click the button below for the permission slip, or have your student pick one up from the Counseling Center at school. If you have any questions contact the Counseling Center at 816-986-1378.
